The Royal Selection

The ruling body that controls all of Luna is a monarchy, but not in the traditional sense.

The King and Queen

Since its inception, Luna has always believed they needed a strong leader. Genetics never played too much of a part in this, it only mattered the rhythm potential of their leaders. As such there has always been a method in place to secure the strongest blood in the kingdom

As Lunarians cherish bonds between Maestros and Resonators to the point of it being as sacred as marriage, the King and Queen are always a maestro and resonator. The Resonator is selected first, and the opposite gender of the resonator is then selected from the candidates for Maestro. As such the title of "King" and "Queen" are both held with the same level of reverence.

The Selection

After the King and Queen ascend to the throne, they are to rule for twenty-five years, starting when they hit age twenty. That being said, the next king and queen are selected at birth 5 years after the current king and queen are on the throne, giving them time to prepare for a child of their own if they so choose.

The children born on that fifth year are analyzed on their potential rhythm, with the top fifteen of each Maestro and Resonator being selected and brought to the palace to be raised and educated as royalty. Each rank is taught together and live together as a pair.

Given the prestige of being selected as a king/queen, a lot of couples who are thinking about having a child near the time of the successor selection ceremony will wait specifically for this to have their child.
