Family Dynamics

As with any sufficiently advanced culture, young Riterrans will grow and eventually form families, eventually having children of their own and beginning the process anew once more. Though how these children interact with their parents during adolescence and into adulthood is another matter entirely.

Relationships
Given there are three distinct "meta races" on Riterra, they each handle marriage and reproduction differently.

Maestros
A maestro may choose to marry another, regardless of gender. These arrangements may be done at any local government office, though notably Maestro Affairs offices do not offer this service. There is a one-month period between a marriage application and the certification of the license, in an attempt to weed out quick marriages and divorces. Traditionally most maestro marriages are celebrated with a lavish and elaborate ceremony, but with the rising costs associated with this industry some young couples are forgoing the traditional process in favor of elopement

Resonators
Resonators can also get married in the same manner as above, though resonator relationships are much rarer than their maestro counterparts. In fact, it is not uncommon for a resonator to go their entire life without being in any sort of meaningful romantic relationship. Though they may still have children with another resonator either for financial gain or at the request of their maestro. It's extremely common for resonators to develop feelings for their maestro or other resonators within their party, though most of these feelings go unrequited.

Naturals
Naturals are closer to Maestros in terms of how they handle their romantic pursuits, though it is somewhat common for pre-arranged marriages to occur simply for the sake of building bloodlines or bonds between different clans. Divorce is seen as shameful, so it typically isn't done, despite being readily available. There is a higher rate of adultery amongst Naturals as a result.

Mix-race Relationships
These are typically looked down upon no matter the mixture of race. For Maestros, dating and or marrying one's resonator, while not illegal is looked at as morally wrong. Those against the practice see a massive power imbalance between the maestro and their resonator. While those for it will cite the honest and open nature of the relationship simply because both parties know what the other is capable of.

Naturals heavily look down upon fraternizing with either Maestros or Resonators. Given how weak the Natural gene is, any resulting child will not be a Natural and will instead come out as a resonator. With the dwindling numbers of Naturals in the world, it is almost to the point of criminalization to engage in reproduction with a non-natural (at least as far as the Natural councils are concerned). Riterran law has nothing for or against a maestro or resonator marrying or bearing a family of a Natural spouse.

Divorce
Most couples practice monogamy. However, no relationship is perfect, and there are times where a couple will end their relationship. For maestros, this is usually a clean process, handled by the Riterran court systems and custody of any pre-young adult will go to the parent who offers the more hospitable home (both in terms of income and overall ability to protect and care for the child). Resonators can only be registered to one maestro, so they will remain with their maestro regardless.

Adulthood and Family
As a child grows up, they will be able to make their own decisions though they will be swayed by what society expect of them.

Maestros
Maestros typically leave home starting at 15 years of age, though some can choose to leave later on in life. It is expected that they will travel about and either work as a hunter/battler, or pursue higher education. Some will do both, saving up money as a hunter or battler and then enrolling in private education for a more specialized career. Some will continue to hone their skills as a resonator battler until they make a sufficient amount of money to settle down somewhere, typically in their mid-twenties to late thirties. It isn't uncommon for particularly skilled maestros to be able to retire if they take full advantage of the free services offered by the Maestro Affairs office during their careers.

No matter how they decide to tackle their adulthood, they typically will stay in close contact with their families, calling regularly and visiting during holidays. Maestros living with their parents past twenty is looked down upon and a source of domestic disturbance.

Resonators

Resonators find themselves sold, traded, or otherwise join a maestro at a young age, usually around five years old. A lot of resonators will get their education with their maestro, learning math, reading, and writing alongside their maestro. A majority of these "starters" end up sticking with the same maestro for their entire lives. Though there are a large portion that do not end up with a maestro early on. Many live on their own, or are just generally strays until they're killed by scherzando or a maestro takes them in. Those with stray parents that actually care and keep them around until they can get a maestro of their own.

Resonators typically don't end up seeing their birth parents after being taken in by a maestro. It's also fairly common for unsold or generally unwanted resonator children to be abandoned to the elements.

Maestro-Resonator parents are of two camps with regards to chipping their children with the former being the standard in the past and the latter being the new norm.

In the past it was very common for a mixed-race couple to register and chip their resonator child to the maestro parent, either keeping the child for themselves, or eventually leaving them in the care or another trusted maestro. Another bygone practice was "match-making" parties where young maestros and resonators were allowed to intermingle and choose their own partners.

Now a days, mixed parents will leave their children unchipped and allow them to come to their own choice of maestro. There has been a feedback loop that has been noted in the last couple of generations where Resonators of these mixed-race families look for maestros who came from similar lineages or like-minded individuals and form more mixed families.

Naturals
Most Naturals live in large communal homes with their entire family occupying the home. Young adult males who don't have a pre-arranged marriage will usually leave home around 20 or so to find a mate and live with her family. Those with pre-arranged marriages will live with their spouse after the marriage depending on the terms. Usually, the male is sent to live with the female, though terms may vary depending on the overall goal of the marriage. As such Natural homes are massive, housing many bedrooms and common rooms as it's expected for many people to live within the halls of the home. Though some particularly large clans make up entire small towns with just their families alone.
