Name: Nyl Limbrender
(Or Tiderunner, or Sharkmaster, or whatever suits her fancy. Fishers don't usually have their own last name at birth, they picked it up from surface StarDragons and believed them to be neat titles so they tend to cycle through whatever sounds cool to them at the time)
Age: 29
Height: 5'9" (6'3" with horns)
Weight: 152 lbs
Relationship status: Single
Family- None
About: Nyl is the current high-priestess of the StarFishers and has been reigning high priestess for 3 terms (9 years). A powerful caster and fighter, not much is known about her youth but her rise to power has been a source of admiration for many a StarFisher as she mixes both level-headed composure with complete stone cold savagery. The title of high priestess is a female only title, one which a few fishers claimed Nyl did not technically qualify for as she began ascending the ranks, but the claims quickly diminished as Nyl started personally silencing them herself in the most lethal of fashion. During her second terms' challenge, her rival for the title tried to get the upper hand by using a device they had stolen from a shooter ship. Instead the device malfunctioned, only destroying Nyl's leg and killing some of the audience.
Many suspected that even though Nyl was the victor of that challenge, without her leg she would now be weakened and easily defeated next term's challenge. But instead Nyl devastated her competitor in the first moments of the fight. Nyl currently has an artificial leg that is said to have been a gift from the Crafter leader, a combination of metal and magic.
StarFisher government style: To the topside races, the StarFishers often appear as a savage bloodthirsty race, aaand they aren't all that far off... But for the StarFishers themselves, their entire culture is built atop a form of combative hierarchy and honor where if one wishes to pursue rank and title, you must first pry it out of the hands of the one who currently holds it. As such, there is a great deal of importance to the Fishers regarding challenged combat which first and foremost, shouldn't be confused with just everyday fighting. While fishers love a good fight, honor challenges in particular are held with deep seriousness. These challenges can range from non-lethal to very, very lethal depending on the terms of the challenge. For example, a Fisher priestess may take on three acolytes. Each of those acolytes may challenge one another for the highest status of acolyte but it would be frowned upon if they were to challenge to the death. However if one of the acolytes challenged the priestess herself for her rank before their final graduation... that challenge would very likely be to the death.
Some rules pertaining to challenges:
>A challenge must be given with two witnesses present.
>You cannot challenge and fight on the same day.
>You cannot challenge someone who is already challenged by another.
>You cannot challenge someone who has finished a challenge until at least a month has passed.
>You cannot counter-challenge someone if you lose to them for at least 6 months.
>You cannot counter-challenge someone if you win to them for at least 3 years.
>You can allow someone to challenge else on you or your family's behalf
>You cannot challenge someone who is pregnant or has had a child within the past year (this applies to both parents)
>One does not challenge children. This is cowardly and children have no rank in which to gain honor from. Until a child undergoes a challenge or trial and are considered an adult.
It is incredibly frowned upon for a Fisher to challenge children. Oddly enough, this is perhaps one of the few rules that has some extensions even to the surface as most Fishers tend to abstain from outright drowning children from the other races, finding the practice a bit below them.
For challenges regarding particular high status positions, these are set to every certain amount of years. For example, only one Fisher can challenge the high priestess every three years for her title. So the years leading up to that there is likely a series of challenges among the would be hopefuls until there is but one remaining.
Needless to say, from an outside perspective, the Fisher government is a series of organized murder anarchy and even the list above does not fully embody the complicated structure that the fishers have built for themselves. Some theorize the fact the Fishers are so pre-occupied with fighting themselves may be one of the main reasons they have not been a complete terror to those who live on land.
Religion: Fishers by and large revere Lenus and attempt to follow whatever they feel is her will. As such, their religion is also tied into their government with the rulers being those of the faith and guide their people both spiritually and governmentally(That's a word now). While in the primary cities, this tends to mean that their leaders are all female due to Lenus being such. It is not unheard of for smaller settlements to have male priests. Despite their often murderous intent, honor and loyalty is something most Fishers hold close to their heart. Save for the Crafters, most StarFishers view the other races as as sub-dragons and thus not something to consider in terms of Fisher society and honor. However any StarDragon that has managed to befriend a Fisher will say that you will never find someone more loyal and true once they see you as one of their own.
