SLOTH

“...Huh. That is the first time I think I’ve ever seen someone physically skip a fisher across their own lake…”

For the longest time many were not aware this particular subtype existed  as the race never ventured far from the vast tropical bamboo forests  that these Stareaters hail form.  Because of the plentiful abundance of  fruit and food, water, and shelter grown from the natural flora, the  sloth eaters live low impact lives never needing to venture very far  from their treetop homes, so the elusive little villages simply went  unnoticed for many generations.
The first encounters caused many explorers to consider the sloth eaters a  lethargic and dimwitted race...though very docile and peaceful and  welcoming. First hand accounts describe early sloth eaters as “dull,  without much importance on language, but surprisingly welcoming and  enthusiastically generous in sharing the bounty of their lands. Which  must be the only way they can survive, as they sleep an astonishing and  frankly comatose average of 14-19 hours a day.”   As such, when word  reached shooters of an entire race of docile dimwitted easy targets that  could harvest otherwise unreachable bounties, they launched a mission  to collect these newfound resources...only to have their asses  collectively handed to them.
For it was quickly discovered and then subsequently proven, Sloth  stareaters are by far physically the strongest stardragons with an  average deadlift of 300lbs and an average ‘yeet’ distance of 50 yards.

The sloth eaters are in general far larger than the average  eater...usually at heights that can compare to or rival the average  sweeper.  Built like a grizzly, they are larger and bulkier with thick  fur and dense bones...making their hides fairly resistant to the sharp  thistles of the local trees, stinging insects, claws of small creatures,  arrows of bigger creatures, spears of biggest creatures...etc.  Despite  their large size, the race is more vegetarian than the average  eater...likely due to the large abundance of year round growing fruit  trees and their strong molars (and strong stomachs) being able to  consume most plants. Sometimes they will consume bugs, but are not  active hunters.  Unlike the average eater’s slightly stockier hands, the  sloth eaters fingers are usually longer and leathery, still resembling  the finger claws of their standard stareater cousins, but seeming to  have grown wider and longer allowing them to grip and climb easier.

The earliest explorers described sloth eaters as solitary and nomadic  having only observed isolated specimens, only in recent times was it  discovered this is far from the truth.  In reality the sloth eaters have  rather sizable villages, but high up in the canopy of the large  interwoven trees that make up their jungle home.  As the trees are  naturally thorned and thistled around the trunk and bases, few  considered them climbable. But at the top of the canopy, bridges made of  boughs and branches and various houses formed in the very trees  themselves dot the treetops.   This also lends to their mellow and  docile demeanor since it has allowed them to avoid confrontation by  simply being up and out of the way of those below. Some sloth eaters  admit to rarely, if ever, visiting the ground.

Culturally the race is one with far more gathering and leisure-time,  often creating a friendly social atmosphere allowing those in the tribes  to pursue hobbies and interests, as food and resources are plentiful.   What are considered farms is often more just harvesting the large fruits  from the massive trees they call home. In some places you can tell the  family history of the sloth eaters based on the flowers of their home  tree as marriages will often include one side taking branches from their  old family tree and grafting them into the new upon marriage.

In the past few generations, since the first explorers discovered the  tribes and versely sloth eaters discovered the outside world, there has  been an increase of sloth eater travellers curious about the expanse of  Jo’arca and a growing demand for the unique fruits, bamboos, and  sugarcanes that sloth eaters have easy access to.  When entrenched in  other cultures, the race is curious and often quick to learn.  Due to  their friendly and mellow dispositions, they often are quick to make  friends with their fellow eaters and other races. They make a very  popular pet breed for starshooters for both docility and strength.  (While sloth eaters may obliterate most attempts at kidnapping, there  have been plenty unlucky enough to be caught sound asleep.)  The current  stareater ruler Alduin Farstrider’s grandmother was in fact a sloth  eater...a scandal at the time but nowadays considered one of the kindest  queens in recent history.

Flowerwise, most sloth eaters prefer picking one of the flowers from their family tree.
