Iso's OC Question of the Day

Posted 8 years, 4 months ago (Edited 6 years, 10 months ago) by Isoprene

Listen, there's nothing I love more than answering random questions about my OCs and seeing other people answer random questions about their OCs. Conveniently, I also love coming up with random questions and asking them. So, hey, why not make it a daily event? In this thread I'll post a question every day, all of them related to OCs! Sometimes it'll be about your feelings about your OCs ("who's your favorite oc?" or "who was your first oc?") and sometimes it'll be questions asked toward your OCs themselves ("what are your ocs' favorite colors?" or "would your ocs rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?"). You can answer in-character or out of character, answer for multiple characters or just one, whatever you want!

I'll try to ask these early in the day, and you're always welcome to answer any ones that you've missed! Feel free to answer as many as you want at once; just be sure to label which question you're answering! I also have a huge list of questions waiting in the wings, but if you have any questions you'd like to see asked feel free to message me and I'll credit and ping you if I end up using your question!

Q1. Who was the first OC you made a profile for on Toyhouse? Why them?

The first OC I made a profile for here was Dicro Corrune! He's the most well-known OC of mine amongst my friends (most of my friends don't have a lot of profiles up yet but he'd have the most links), is probably my most important character overall even though I have like 50 different OC universes and he's only connected to a few, and if he's not my favorite OC overall he's pretty darn close. There's a lot of me in him, too, so I feel like putting him up first provides a decent insight into both the kind of person I am and the kind of characters you'll probably see from me. Plus he has the most images, the most writing, is the most fun to RP with, and is one of my oldest active OCs... it was an obvious choice for me!

Q31. Which of your OCs is the youngest?

Looks like at the moment it's Reka at a whopping 7 years old. :P And at that age she's already off on a grand adventure to save her parents, to her fairy guardians' dismay. At a close second would be Mira, although she's in desperate need of new art and a better profile. Heck, they both need some more love and work on them profiles... She technically is 6 when she first appears in her story, but the bulk of the story starts/happens two years later when she's 8. I suppose her adoptive sister Kimi would technically be youngest overall since she's born later during the story, but she doesn't have a profile yet, and even when she eventually does it's going to be of a slightly older version anyway. XD I don't think a baby necessarily needs a profile, but whatever.

30. Which OC of yours is the most responsible?

Hm. I have a couple characters in mind, but I'm going to say the most responsible one is Travis. He takes his job very seriously, and is determined to do a good job with every task given to him, no matter how mundane. Part of that is due to the fact that he works with some volatile employers, who may or not kill employees who fail them... but mostly it's because he is eager to prove his worth and thrives on praise from the people he respects.

Q31. Which of your OCs is the youngest?

I don't particularly like having young characters as my major OCs anymore, mostly because I'm older and prefer to work with mature characters, and also because I don't like the idea of subjecting children to some of the plotlines I've developed anymore. ^^; Most of my primary characters are 18+ with only a few exceptions.

Out of my TH characters, I guess technically Five-Star is youngest, being only about 9 years old. However, he is a Mewtwo whose physical and mental maturation was accelerated artificially in the lab, so he's actually more like a 20-something year old relative to humans.

Some of my characters do have infant children (or will), but I tend to focus more on what the children will be like when they're older and starting their own stories. :)

Q31. Which of your OCs is the youngest?

This is tricky when you have so many non-humans whose mental ages and actual ages totally don't overlap...

Shibunoro is technically the youngest, but he's about the same physical and mental age as the person he was made from. So I don't count him as the youngest. The actual youngest is Lial, who's sixteen. HE'S ALSO MY MOST JADED CHARACTER. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Yeah... He's had a hard life.

Q32. Do you use tags? If so, what do you tag? If not, why not?

I do! I tag all of my characters with the name of the stories/universes that they're in (technically folders cover that, but you can't put characters in multiple folders and several of my OCs are part of multiple stories), their species, alliances/affiliations, and elemental association if applicable. I also tag adopted characters as "adopted", fan characters as "fan characters", and any character I created for roleplaying (and therefore a character who lacks a home story) as "rp original".

I kind of want to use more tags just because I like tagging things for organizational purposes even if I never make use of it - maybe age group, gender, role (like "protagonist" or "antagonist" or "side character"), etc. - but I'm also really lazy and don't feel like editing all of my existing characters. But what I have now works well enough!

Q32. Do you use tags? If so, what do you tag? If not, why not?

I've been meaning to use my tags more often, they seem better than making a million folders and might be helpful for labling which ocs are x gender or main cast, species, ect, and I would be willing to rp with. I've been meaning to work on them to help with sorting, lets see how long that takes me.

Q32. Do you use tags? If so, what do you tag? If not, why not?

I use tags for things that would make searching through my characters easier. The basic ones I usually do are gender (if applicable, which it almost always is with my characters) and species. I tend to use more common terms that other users would use like "human," "elf", "dark elf", or indicate if they're anthro or kemonomimi and of what animal. However in the actual profile I use the terms for those species in their world. I personally don't refer to any of my characters as kemonomimis even though a buttload of them are, mostly because I never used the term from the beginning and only recently heard it was the term most people use in communities like this. I don't like it though, so I only use it for tagging for other peoples' benefit if they want to search tags.

I also use tags that might describe certain parts of their appearances that may apply to a bunch of characters, like goggles, wings, scar, military, nautical, or whatever. Most of the time if there's a trend I can think of then I'll tag it. I sometimes tag groups that apply to a couple of characters that may not be appropriately reflected in their folders, like tagging the members of a band or a group of cultists or whatever. It makes cross story grouping a little easier since my folders are for specific stories/series.

Q31. Which of your OCs is the youngest?

Emily is the youngest, being 7 months old. She's the only character I have that can still be counted as a child, though the age of 20 is still considered pretty young so people under that age count too. Cafun and Michael are both around the age of 17, so they're the sevond youngest, and Florence is 18. The students from the Academy story are all still teens too so I suppose they count as well.

Q32. Do you use tags? If so, what do you tag? If not, why not?

All of the time, it makes things a lot easier for me. I tag by gender, sexuality, species, faction, and whether they're modern or medieval. I've listed the tags I use on my front page because I use them so often that having them structured like that is best.

Q32. Do you use tags? If so, what do you tag? If not, why not?

I only tag whether they're adopted or if they're original characters that I designed myself ahaha. I use the folders to organise them into their stories/universes... I like checking to see my ratio of adopted:original characters. Keep it even, you know?

Q33. Which of your OCs like to cause trouble the most?

Hellscream definitely gets this one, considering that he was intentionally programmed to wreak havoc. His favorite thing to do is kill - his creators figured that would be the easiest way to have an angel-soul-powered robot give Heaven a bad name - but he also gets his kicks from property destruction and just scaring people without doing anything to them.

On the decidedly less murderous side, Kameila likes to cause mischief wherever she goes as well, though in her case it's mostly because she's just trying to get her way. It's not the reactions of others she's concerned with; she'll steal and fight because she wants something or needs to get past someone. Of course, she still likes seeing adults get mad, but...

Porphyra is worth mentioning as well; if things are too boring and everyone's following the law, she'll often stir up trouble and pin it on someone else so she has someone to go after. Even though she's part of the Space Police, she gets a thrill from breaking the law and unleashing chaos... which really brings up the question on how she ever got the job in the first place.

EDIT: we finally made it...

Q33. Which of your OCs like to cause trouble the most?

Adam for sure. It's a major part of his personality, one of the few ways he finds enjoyment in his dull and miserable life is causes other's pain. Since he was young he enjoyed playing cruel tricks that put others in distress. He also enjoys the attention that the mischief gives him. He gets a certain rush out of it and has a certain drive, he enjoys breaking rules and causing others pain.

After is probably Iskalon, who enjoys twisting words to make others squirm and enjoys telling half truths to get a humorous reaction, have to pass by 300+ years doing something. He would spread more rumors if he had the chance.

Q33. Which of your OCs like to cause trouble the most?

In terms of pranks or less severe trouble, Mark, Freyr, and Gretchen are definitely pranksters, although Gretchen does do more troubling things like shoplifting or pickpocketing. Fathom tends to make a lot of trouble because he's just unreasonable sometimes, likes getting into fights, and doesn't have a very good understanding of what is okay and what isn't, such as he doesn't get why property damage, assault, or murder is such a big deal. He's... a problem child. His older sister Tilia is pretty much the same, and she lives for getting people worked up and starting fights. Slamen loves stealing things and inconveniencing others, particularly followers of the Empire. He has a super flippant attitude about it and will steal everything out of your pockets before you can even turn around. Heck, he'll steal the pants off you so you don't have pockets anymore. XD Xel usually doesn't go out of his way to start problems, but he will quickly escalate things because he kind of likes conflict and fights. And Neoka doesn't like starting trouble, but trouble follows him everywhere to his dismay. So everyone considers him a troublemaker even though he states he's just a troublemagnet.

On a more malicious note, Zy gets his kicks from violence. He's rather insane, so he's the type that'll put a bullet in someone's head if they're bothering him even a little. Nyfringe also loves causing others trouble and suffering, especially if they're the type of people that really get on his nerves. He hates the concept of "fate" and "destiny" so anyone that talks about believing such things will likely have their time or life ruined by him.
