Iso's OC Question of the Day

Posted 8 years, 4 months ago (Edited 6 years, 10 months ago) by Isoprene

Listen, there's nothing I love more than answering random questions about my OCs and seeing other people answer random questions about their OCs. Conveniently, I also love coming up with random questions and asking them. So, hey, why not make it a daily event? In this thread I'll post a question every day, all of them related to OCs! Sometimes it'll be about your feelings about your OCs ("who's your favorite oc?" or "who was your first oc?") and sometimes it'll be questions asked toward your OCs themselves ("what are your ocs' favorite colors?" or "would your ocs rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?"). You can answer in-character or out of character, answer for multiple characters or just one, whatever you want!

I'll try to ask these early in the day, and you're always welcome to answer any ones that you've missed! Feel free to answer as many as you want at once; just be sure to label which question you're answering! I also have a huge list of questions waiting in the wings, but if you have any questions you'd like to see asked feel free to message me and I'll credit and ping you if I end up using your question!

In affiliation with necessaryocthings, run by reinapepiada!

Q1. Who was the first OC you made a profile for on Toyhouse? Why them?

The first OC I made a profile for here was Dicro Corrune! He's the most well-known OC of mine amongst my friends (most of my friends don't have a lot of profiles up yet but he'd have the most links), is probably my most important character overall even though I have like 50 different OC universes and he's only connected to a few, and if he's not my favorite OC overall he's pretty darn close. There's a lot of me in him, too, so I feel like putting him up first provides a decent insight into both the kind of person I am and the kind of characters you'll probably see from me. Plus he has the most images, the most writing, is the most fun to RP with, and is one of my oldest active OCs... it was an obvious choice for me!

Q49. Do you have any OCs who have had their designs radically changed from when you first conceptualized them?

Aside from the ones I touched on in the last question and excluding simple outfit design changes...

Alcata went through a pretty dramatic change. I wasn't all that happy with her original design, which had shorter and lighter blue hair, facial markings under her eyes, and overall plain in terms of outfit, which also seemed a bit too much for a mermaid, but it was mostly because I didn't want to draw a lady with a revealing top because I couldn't draw womanly chests or whatever. Recently my friend was kind enough to redesign her using her Gaia avi as a reference, and man oh man does she look lovely now. Especially since she was fortunate enough to find some really nice artists to draw her avi so nicely. :3 Alcata has the most favorites so far and tends to get the most compliments because of the lovely design and art my friend acquired~ My other friends have also helped me redesign other characters using their avis, which I'm very happy about.

Buffy and Wenona were both redesigned to have much more interesting outfits and hairstyles using dressup games, because I suck at complicated hair and dresses. XD In fact a lot of dressup games have helped me redesign a lot of characters that had really plain designs before, since although most games have rather limited choices if you already have a theme in mind it's a pretty nice way to give yourself ideas for a fresh look, and then make whatever changes you like when you eventually draw them yourselves. Plus... I love dressing up things... NO SHAME Some other dressup game redesigned characters of mine are Dratta, JaneKatsena, Kikea, and Sharen. And these are just characters that already had a design prior. There are some that I only had basic ideas but never drew them before using the games, so I don't count that as redesign really. ^^; And I didn't count the ones that didn't undergo any eye, hair, facial changes and only got some clothing upgrade from the games. I'm really happy with how I was able to put together Jane's new look. It's really lovely and she's gotten a lot of beautiful art since then. I certaily wouldn't have thought to give her that type of outfit and hair unless the outfit pieces were there in front of me in the game. Her original design was soooooooo dull.

My brother in law was kind enough to redesign Dremvati for me. Really happy with how it turned out~ His original art of the new design is in her gallery still. :3 And Mac and Mara used to be puffball people, like from a Kirby fandon kind of world I made up. XD Actually Mac was Kirby, but I just ended up taking his characterization and sticking it to a totally new and non-fandom related revamp of the world and general story I had going. Almost everyone from this story was redesigned years ago to be non-fandom related. Mackerby was a combo of Kirby and another character named Mac, so I took Kirby's personality and Mac's general design and made it into a new humanoid character instead. Mara was Kirby's best friend in the story, and I took her personality and the design of Mac's friend Jay and did something similar. Purity was a Jigglypuff, Buffy was an Igglybuff, Wenona was a Wigglytuff, Addle was a winged Waddle Dee, and Kira was also a puffball person. Zero came much later and wasn't really redesigned in any way, but he's a humanoid form of the Kirby boss, 02. And Nyfringe doesn't count because he also came later and has made no design changes.

And there's still a buttload I plan on redesigning, so tally ho~

We did it, guys! We hit the big five-o! Thanks for sticking around with me for long, and thanks to all of the new people who keep joining in! It's pretty cheesy, but it means a lot to me that people like answering my silly little questions! It's been a lot of fun reading everyone's answers, and I hope I'll keep being able to read more until either I run out of questions or the heat death of the universe!!!

Q50. Which of your OCs like to answer questions about themselves the most?

Definitely Bonnie! He's a junkie for personality quizzes and will reblog every zodiac post, tag yourself post, and ask meme he sees. He really just likes putting random information about himself out there, and he's completely shameless so he'll answer just about any question freely. It's just something he finds fun, but he couldn't really tell you why. He'd probably just say "because I'm awesome B)" and go back to taking a "what Naruto character are you" quiz on an archive of Quizilla even though he's never watched Naruto in his life.

(same

also i still have to answer yesterday's aaaaa)

Q48. Do you have any OCs who have radically changed from their original concept?

I think all my "old" characters (mostly made when I was still in middle and high school... 10-15 years ago) have changed since their initial concept. It's inevitable, really--as I've changed as a person, so have they, in order to reflect my changing thoughts, attitude, and experiences. But I'll list just the characters who have changed the most. (However, some of the characters I've changed most dramatically are not yet up on Toyhouse, as I'm still working on them.)

Surprise surprise--Alexander is one of these characters. I'm pretty sure I came up with him when I was... 12, 13? He started out as a doodle on a piece of notebook paper, and was initially meant to be an antagonist to my Pokemon trainer-sona character, Sam. He was much more roguish and carefree, committing thefts simply for the fun of it and to show off his skills. He was really just made up for a minor villain role in a side story I had come up with (a medieval/fantasy-type Pokemon world setting), but when that didn't really pan out, I tried to transplant him into the main series of fanfics I was working on. Since then, I've had to tweak him quite a bit, and he's become a very deep and serious character as a result.

Likewise, Sam has changed quite a bit. She was basically a self-insert of me in the Pokemon world as a trainer, and I've played around with her a lot over the years to find something I was comfortable working with and didn't smack of "cheesy childhood Mary Sue" character (even though I have a really dim view of people who care about that term). I no longer really see her as me (though she still represents me as an avatar), since her personality has evolved into something rather different than original. She also started to interact with Alexander more and more as I incorporated him into the story, and they both inadvertantly fell in love. I honestly had not planned it that way, but it worked out and I am super happy that it did. They're so cute. ;_;

Another drastically different character from what I originally created them to be is Bix. She started out as a very normal girl. She was a bounty hunter, but very professional and level-headed about it. She was the voice of wisdom for some of the other characters in the story, and was very moralistic despite her field of work. Now? She is a two-faceted gal with a very cute, playful side and a very serious, bloodthirsty side, who can be incredibly immature at times and really isn't concerned with morals as much (though she's still a good person deep down). I think her 180 was a result of me and my then-boyfriend RPing and world building, and I changed her up a lot so she didn't sound just like one of my other characters. x)

And, probably my most recent character that changed fairly dramatically is Liam. He is one of my few adopted designs, and when I first got him, I had planned for him to be a femboy--very feminine, pretty, and fond of women's clothing. However, after doing a few RP sessions, those ideas didn't stick. He's still fairly pretty and elegant in his style, but is not really a femboy anymore. He also doesn't like women's clothing (well, he still likes the undergarments). I wanted to make him a submissive sort of guy (since most of my other male characters are dominant), but it just didn't stick either. I don't know what it is, but I can't RP submissive men. xD;

Q49. Do you have any OCs who have had their designs radically changed from when you first conceptualized them?

Honestly, I don't really... think so? Once I come up with a character's initial design, I tend to stick fairly closely to it, even as the character evolves over time. I might make some alterations to the outfit or minor features, but I rarely change major features of a character's design.

Trese here is probably the most dramatic redesign I have on hand, though that's mostly because I changed the timeframe of the story he's in. Originally, he was going to be a 12-year old boy when the story took place, but since then, I've found I prefer to work with adult characters. So he's been bumped up to 20-years old, and has gotten a grown-up design to match. The rest of the cast in his story has yet to be posted here on Toyhouse, because I'm actually working on dramatic redesigns for almost all of them. They are probably my only characters that I cannot settle on designs for; they've been redesigned probably 4 times and I'm still not happy. -_-

Q50. Which of your OCs like to answer questions about themselves the most?

I think Missy would love to answer those kinds of questionaires and stuff. I can see her being on social media a lot and enjoying fun quizzes like that. She's also a very empathetic person who likes to chat with others about feelings and the like, so she's comfortable sharing her thoughts in an "interview" like environment.

Alexander is also big into that kind of thing, though it's partly because I like personally using him to answer character questionaires, since he's one of my best developed characters. xD Still, I do like to think he would enjoy it, simply cause it gives him an excuse to talk about himself. He's not really self-centered or anything, but he does like to complain about his woeful past and get sympathy for it. ^^;

Q49. Do you have any OCs who have had their designs radically changed from when you first conceptualized them?

Whoops, basically answered this question the other day :p

The biggest change was Leysa probably, who used to be a redhead with a fair chest, freckles, and scrawny. Now she is thicker with dark hair and skin, the differences always amuse me there. Willa has also had a lot of changed, she used to be more robotic with her joints being visible and brown eyes with chobits like ear pieces. Her changes happened mostly because I wanted to make her less chobits esc but still robotic.

Q50. Which of your OCs like to answer questions about themselves the most?

Griffin is an open book and is extremely comfortable answering questions, whatever they are really. He has a lot of confidence in himself, but doesn't necessarily push the conversation to talk about himself. Io might like talking about themselves a lot but not necessarily questions.

Q50. Which of your OCs like to answer questions about themselves the most?

I feel like Linsey would like answering questions the most. She runs the website for her family's band, which I've mentioned a million times already, and also her own blog, so she's the type that loves making and answering trivia or doing Q&A type things, both for herself and for the band. Cal is also the type to love answering questions about himself since he's a very outgoing and social person, although he's very likely to ask just as many or more questions about the other person too. And since he and Katie are close friends and have rather similar personalities, she's likely to do so too. Heaven forbid you end up with both of them questioning you endlessly. Portia also loooooooves talking about herself, a bit more than she realizes. XD

5inthemorning my heart....... thank you for your interest!! i got like 50 questions saved for future use so hopefully i'll keep coming up with more for a long time! though eventually the questions will probably be like "uhhh i don't know what kind of pasta would your ocs be"

also vivian is me

Q51. what kind of pasta would your ocs be Do you have any joke characters, or at least any characters who primarily serve as comic relief?

well first off dicro would definitely be spaghetti I do! It's kind of funny how some of them have developed, though. Bunny (who doesn't have a Toyhouse or even a Charahub for some reason rip) is probably the biggest example. I doodled him in a comic of mine once back in middle school where he threatened to rip off heads to get cheez burgers (the spelling is important), and once I started doing big RP plots he hung around the heroes, the villains, and really everyone else to just be the plot mascot. Then he wound up offering a lot of exposition to every side, knew a bunch of stuff nobody else knew, and eventually he wound up being revealed as a Higher Being: a small group of beings who are, for the sake of my RPs, the most powerful beings in Entirety (just below the Creator) and the personifications of abstracts such as time, space, and empathy.

He still likes cheez burgers and perpetually makes that :3 face, though.

Focusing on people I actually have Toyhouse profiles, for, still yes! Charity is basically just a Christmas gag who's a vehicle for wacky holiday-themed stories or RPs. Thyx was originally supposed to be someone who could be taken seriously, but the first time I used him I realized I had no idea how to RP as him and wound up making him kind of an incompetent loser so I could push him off to the side. Thyx thinking he's super cool and powerful but actually being a bumbling dork stuck, and he became a memetic character in my RP community to the point where people started writing joking erotic fanfiction about him with other popular RP characters. And a cheeseburger. And a Doritos Locos Taco™. And himself.

Now Thyx is involved with most of my more important characters and he keeps kind of worming his way into everything, serving as comic relief. I don't think I'd have it any other way. My OCs have entered a new era... one that's TOTALLY METAL!!!!!!!!

Q51. what kind of pasta would your ocs be Do you have any joke characters, or at least any characters who primarily serve as comic relief?

Neoka is forever my darling ravioli *cough* I mean, Neoka has basically become a joke character at this point where he has a serious plot and then I use him for most of my non-serious crap. Mister breaking the fourth wall and falling into every imaginable slapstick moment I can feasibly subject him to, especially all those overly descriptive metaphors about face palming or getting hit in the face by a door. He has far too many inside jokes built into his character by now. ^^; Along with him, Isaac and especially Demi (who still needs a profile) make everything so much more ridiculous. Isaac started off as some nameless guy in a joke RP about doing a de-cursing ritual on my persona, and he was desperately trying to mess things up for us. Demi, oh my lord, Demi... She's just everything ridiculous about my mind. She's on all my school notes up to this day, she's in all my school projects that allow for creativity/drawing... and she's in all my crash courses through American and World History. She's even worse than Neoka, considering she came first. XD

Calik started out as a guy with a pet camel because a friend in class mentioned "camels can store vasts amounts of water in their humps" in 6th grade, so I drew a person slurping water through a straw out of a distressed camel's hump. He's smoothed out a lot more and is much more cutesy than he started as, but he's still horrendously ridiculous and cartoony compared to a lot of people around him. He's constantly getting into horrible accidents and coming out unscathed, I've purposely made it so he always wears off the traction on all his shoes so he's always slipping across yards of hallways and smashing into stuff... Just a bucket of Acme written all over him. ^^; His cousin Alec also got most of his development from a parody of The Grapes of Wrath that I never ended up writing. Alec played as Al (duh) so he drove the car a bunch and I made him waaaaaaaaaay too enthusiastic about running over squirrels. Even though there's no context to it in his real story, he still hates squirrels and will do anything, even jump out a window, to have a chance to catch and grill one of those little devils.

Alotana is quite literally a gender bended version of Anatola, and it's just her freaking name spelled backwards. XD On GaiaOnline, a handful of guildmembers were gender swapping either for fun or for the gender swap achievement, so I joined in on the fun. I didn't change my name, but I went as The-Lord-Alotana instead of The-Lady-Anatola. And when I changed back to a Lady months later I missed him, so I made a side account for reals. XD And now he has a strange place in her actual story. Nuke originally started with the mere concept "Everything I touch explodes." Now it's a horrible tragedy of life he has to deal with, but it's still a grimly hilarious gag to me.

Mini is just a constant terrible joke machine. She along with her sister Maranda, and later on Bebe, were part of a goofy ninja story series I wrote for story assignments in 4th grade. It was called Crazy Ninjas and just about these teen ninjas saving the world in ridiculous manners, heavily influenced by the show Totally Spies. Mini just loves reading awful jokes out of her endless joke books, because she thinks missions are too easy for her and her sister, so she tries to throw Maranda off her game with awful puns or whatever because she knows she HAAAAAAAATES jokes. XD What better way to get a master assassin to faceplant in disgust than a terrible punchline?

Q51. what kind of pasta would your ocs be Do you have any joke characters, or at least any characters who primarily serve as comic relief?

Dude Buttington is ravioli Dude Buttington, they are the best and I hope I don't make anyone pissed with them but, still the best. I want to add more but they were honestly Dude Buttington was something I did while playing on TH at school and randomly doodled them and then, that happened... I just need to be bored and in an unusual mood. I also need more art of them, it's needed.
