Iso's OC Question of the Day

Posted 8 years, 4 months ago (Edited 6 years, 10 months ago) by Isoprene

Listen, there's nothing I love more than answering random questions about my OCs and seeing other people answer random questions about their OCs. Conveniently, I also love coming up with random questions and asking them. So, hey, why not make it a daily event? In this thread I'll post a question every day, all of them related to OCs! Sometimes it'll be about your feelings about your OCs ("who's your favorite oc?" or "who was your first oc?") and sometimes it'll be questions asked toward your OCs themselves ("what are your ocs' favorite colors?" or "would your ocs rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?"). You can answer in-character or out of character, answer for multiple characters or just one, whatever you want!

I'll try to ask these early in the day, and you're always welcome to answer any ones that you've missed! Feel free to answer as many as you want at once; just be sure to label which question you're answering! I also have a huge list of questions waiting in the wings, but if you have any questions you'd like to see asked feel free to message me and I'll credit and ping you if I end up using your question!

In affiliation with necessaryocthings, run by reinapepiada!

Q1. Who was the first OC you made a profile for on Toyhouse? Why them?

The first OC I made a profile for here was Dicro Corrune! He's the most well-known OC of mine amongst my friends (most of my friends don't have a lot of profiles up yet but he'd have the most links), is probably my most important character overall even though I have like 50 different OC universes and he's only connected to a few, and if he's not my favorite OC overall he's pretty darn close. There's a lot of me in him, too, so I feel like putting him up first provides a decent insight into both the kind of person I am and the kind of characters you'll probably see from me. Plus he has the most images, the most writing, is the most fun to RP with, and is one of my oldest active OCs... it was an obvious choice for me!

Q55. Which of your OCs have the hardest time controlling their anger?

i swear i'll answer my own questions eventually!!!

LadyLatias

Q52. Which OC of yours is the most lustful?

Probably... Liam. He likes sex, eyes just about anyone who crosses his path, and if he really takes a shine to someone, he'll find some way to lure them into bed with him. He has a law firm and works with a variety of interesting individuals, and even though he prides himself on being professional... he's really not. If he gets attracted to a client and thinks he can seduce them, he will. Unfortunately, as a lawyer, he's very good at convincing people. ^^;

He's not malicious in his intentions; he just gets carried away with his desires sometimes. :\ He has various kinks as well, and isn't exactly in the practice of hiding them or being shy about them. Basically a likeable, charismatic pervert. xD

Q53. Which OC of yours is the most envious of others?

A tough question... but I think I'll go with Krisina. She's the youngest child and spoiled princess of the phoenix kingdom. No matter how much she gets, there's always something else that will catch her attention and make her obsessively desirous of it. Of course, when she actually gets it, it doesn't make her as happy as she wanted, and she's on to the next conquest.

This attitude applies to just about everything in her life, but the biggest example of it is how she hates and envies her older brother, Avery, for being first in line for the throne. She wanted to be queen more than anything, but when she realized it wasn't going to happen, she spent years plotting a way to make it happen. Eventually, she had her parents murdered, and ascended as queen in Avery's absence. Predictably, the kingdom started to decline under her selfish and harsh rule...

(There's another character I have in mind that's probably more envious, but she doesn't have a profile up yet. ;.; )

Q54. Which OC of yours is the most greedy?

Hmmm. I guess Krisina, as described above, probably counts? Envy seems to go with greed, after all. She always wants what she doesn't already have, and is unsatisfied with the things she's already obtained. Whether that's belongings (clothing, jewelry, etc.), lands, being pampered with luxuries, or men... she wants it all.

Q55. Which of your OCs have the hardest time controlling their anger?

Haha, a lot of "loose cannons" come to mind. A number of my characters have explosive tempers, or violent outbursts for relatively minor offenses... but overall I'm going to say Koyasha has the hardest time controlling it. Simply because she internalizes any negative emotion (fear, self-doubt, sadness, even just stress in general) into anger. Even feelings of "love" trigger anxiety in her (as having to trust and be open to someone makes her feel vulnerable), which she then processes into anger and hatred. As a result, she can only feel better by releasing this anger in violent and/or sadistic ways. Killing the source of her frustration is an easy way to rid herself of the problem, but she also enjoys torturing people (mentally, physically, or both) if she has a particular grudge against them.

If asked, she would say she is in total control of everything, but I think it's obvious that turning everything into violent anger is not a good way to control your emotions. :\

Q55. Which of your OCs have the hardest time controlling their anger?

mAYDA. OH GOD DEFINITELY HER. Even when growing up, she was never a passive girl. Alexandre was the one that had to keep his cool during the shitty parts of their childhood. Anyway, Mayda was just full of anger in back then and for good reason. Now she's calmed down quite a bit. Well. it looks like it anyway. Her unstoppable shonen protag-tier willpower and determination would say otherwise. Taunt her in order to start something? She's gonna skip straight to the fighting part. If she's cooking, don't touch anything. Just don't do it. She won't exactly break your hand, but she WILL give you a scary look.

basically she refuses to be passive and also fun fact she's bff material B) she will protect friends very fiercely

Q53. Which OC of yours is the most envious of others?

Eileen is afflicted with the sin of envy. Her family basically starved her for attention, since her father was only ever interested in her brother and her mother never found anything in common with her own daughter. After they fostered and eventually adopted another girl, her mom never paid Eileen much attention since she greatly preferred the other girl. Eileen always was envious of the things her siblings had, and she was never considered to be an attractive girl at school so she got picked on a lot, especially by Paige. Eileen tended to get jealous of the things the other kids had since they seemed to be content with their lives, either of their belongings, the fact they had friends and loved ones... etc. And the only friend she had for a long while was Sean, but she was even envious of him since he has a nice, rich-boy life. Things got a lot better when she made friends with Vincent and started dating Lloyd, so even though things were still rough on her she felt like she had at least some light at the end of the tunnel to be happy about... But of course that went away once they started college and Lloyd started being more interested in other girls. The unhappiness is catching up with her again and she's gone back to wishing she had anything that everyone else seems to have, and she's so certain that Lloyd's the only one that could possibly love a person like her she won't even break up with him.

Q54. Which OC of yours is the most greedy?

Gretchen is afflicted with the sin of greed. Throughout her childhood her parents always fought with each other, and she always tended to side with her mother. In turn, her mother would spoil her terribly. Her mom was also a greedy person, but she was the type to love expensive and luxurious things, and the money troubles the family had was a big cause of the quarrels. Gretchen however just likes having anything and everything. She loves having things just for the sake of having them, but she's not envious of other people for having things too. She turned to shoplifting and pickpocketing when she felt her mother wasn't giving her enough stuff she actually wanted, since her mother just gave her fancy things when sometimes Gretchen just wanted to get a video game or something. Eventually she just started stealing just so she could have more things, whether she actually wanted them or not. After their parents divorced and she moved away with her mother, she never got any decent upbringing to be a decent person. Gretchen's not a terribly unpleasant person so be around since she eventually realized her mother was a jerk, but she's also not someone you turn your back on when you have full pockets.

Q55. Which of your OCs have the hardest time controlling their anger?

Walter is afflicted with the sin of wrath. Unlike his sister, Gretchen, Walter tended to side with his father since he found his mother's arguments petty. His father was a rough and unsympathetic man, so Walter never learned much compassion from him, and his mother would verbally and sometimes physically abuse Walter because he wouldn't side with her. Eventually when he got older he learned to defend himself until she didn't find it worth it to fight with him. But the tension in the household already took it's toll, and Walter ended up being rather high strung, so even though he's normall a very mellow and calm person his anger could be instantaneous and explosive. He tended to lash out at his own sister since his mom would rub in his face how much she preferred her, and since his father was rather strict Walter never tended to get anything in term of luxuries. He mellowed out a lot after the divorce and felt rather bad about how he treated his sister. Eventually they encountered each other again shortly before attending the same college, and they're on neutral to somewhat friendly terms again. He also ended up meeting and dating Leila, which gave him something to be content with in his life. But of course now that Leila's been cheating on him he's gone back to being very high strung since he always bottles up his feelings. He never confronts Leila about it, but he tends to explode at other people if they even mildly annoy him.

Q52. Which OC of yours is the most lustful?

I think I have a... couple for this one. Rawlor definitely likes having sex-- he's gotten in trouble for having sex with the wrong people, oopsie-doodle. When he's attracted to someone he'll go after them without hesitation or without pause. No shyness!! Lial is also the lustful type. Like... even though his job is doing it for a living (before he gets chucked off a dock), he really wants an intimate connection with one person and when he has that one person he wants to be close with them constantly because he doesn't feel like he has that much to offer apart from his body. What this means is that Luceme gets a lot of action. Once they get together, that is.

Honourable mention goes to Sohgi who just has an intense... lust for money.

Q53. Which OC of yours is the most envious of others?

If I had to pick, Kaan is right up there... he's a half-breed of a bestia (a species in my universe) and a human, and as a half-breed... well, he gets a lot of bad treatment. He envies the freedoms that others have, and the treatment that others can get even when he doesn't think they've really earned it. He's prejudiced against by others as much as he himself can be prejudiced?? Either way, yeah, his envious feelings make sense but at the same time you might want to question some of the ways that he thinks...

Q54. Which OC of yours is the most greedy?

Sasha wants it all, all, all. He doesn't want to leave Noce, he wants to stay with him forever and get married to him (probably not going to happen considering Noce sees him as his son) and also live wherever they want and have all the things. Fedelmid is the greedy type too, but in a worse way. Like Sasha, he wanted to keep the person he loved all to himself but, unlike Sasha, he got himself in a bad spot and wound up leaving his village. His upcoming wedding, ruined, everything p much ruined because he was getting all greedy and yandere.

Q55. Which of your OCs have the hardest time controlling their anger?

Kaan again...lmao. He's a 7"0 tank of a man who can flatten most anyone who pisses him off. He's extremely nervey and he's got a lot of sore points? So it's way easier than it should be to make him mad. Because of his sensitivity to other kinds of people and how they treat what he is, that also doesn't help with his temper. Yager's my other really temperamental one who can't control himself lmfghf. He's not as sensitive as Kaan is, but he sure does hold a grudge. Like Kaan, he's really strong and gets into brawls and fistfights pretty often. Unlike Kaan, he's much smaller. Kind of another sore point right there.

Some of my yokai are like this too haha: Shibunoro and Kabaki are the big ones who you don't want to get angry.

Q56. Which OC of yours has the simplest design? Who has the most complicated design?

For the former, out of the people I have profiles for here I guess I'd go with... maybe Aedi? Her hair is a little odd, but otherwise she's got a pretty straightforward school-uniform-esque outfit and no really strange or complicated features. Dicro's is also pretty simple; his shoes have a sort of complicated design but otherwise he just wears a lot of plain, black stuff and a green coat. Nothing too exciting there.

For the most complicated, definitely Zhirael! He has weird gradient hair, feathered wings, a fancy outfit with a whole bunch of different layers... I always want to get nice art of him but I never ask for commissions of him because his design has so many parts that tend to be difficult to draw that I never want to inflict him on anyone. ;_;7

Some day, buddy... some day.

Q56. Which OC of yours has the simplest design? Who has the most complicated design?

A handful of my charactes have ultra simple designs when I draw them for short comics or doodles in my notebooks or lecture notes, to the point where they're just wearing plain long sleeved shirts and jeans or a floor length skirt depending on the character. Long sleeves so I don't have to draw arms separately and jeans/floor length skirts so I don't have to draw legs separately. Fewer lines = YES

But in terms of actual designs in my normal art style, I'd say a lot of my normal human characters from the pseudo-Earth world I've got going are pretty simple. They each have some unique trait about them, whether it be just their facial/hair features or something about their clothes or coloring or whatever, but I tend to keep my regular human characters simple because... well, because they're easier to draw and being unnecessarily complicated just to look unique isn't something I'm fond of. I'd say most of the people from RMTL all have pretty simple designs. They're mostly defined by their physical features since their outfits change just like regular people, although they have their own styles they prefer. Out of those, I'd say either Gretchen or Cooper are the simplest, since usually they both just wear plain hoodies and jeans or whatever. Neither like too much accessorizing or grabbing much attention with their clothing.

For most complicated... hm. Criss has a lot of small details that need to be in place, which is why he only has one piece of art from someone other than me (but mmmmmmm-baby it's one hell of a piece, and a freebie at that~) I think Durgalesc has a moderately complicated design that just looks more intimidating because of all the tiny beads and scales, so it just has a lot more lines while being relatively straight forward... although every one of her gloves is slightly different, so if you're not paying close attention you'll definitely get something wrong. Jake is gonna be a pain in the butt to draw again, even though I've never really drawn him properly since I first designed him. He's got a relatively complicated outfit (that a wonderful person was willing to help me revamp for free and in a livestream~ Otherwise I probably would've given up on redesigning him ^^;) and eight giant dragonfly wings that are supposed to look like ornate stained glass. I have no idea how to draw stained glass. -_- And Xel is rather complicated too since he has the same type of wings, but he only has six. Xel doesn't have very complicated clothing I guess, but I'm very particular about all the little markings on it and all the scars/marks on his skin. None of them are random, so I always have to stare at his refs to make sure I'm not forgetting any. ^^;

Q57. How do you decide birthdays for your OCs (if your OCs have birthdays)?

Back in the day I would just give people random dates on specific months based on whatever color was most prominent in their design. White for January, pink for February, green for March, etc. A couple of years ago I changed almost every character's birthday (out of the ones who even had birthdays), instead making them based off of the western zodiac. I look up the dates for the sign that matches their personality best, then pick a date within that period of time that just kind of feels right. I have a wordpad file where I list every OC birthday I have planned, so at this point choosing a date usually just comes down to "which date hasn't been taken yet?"

spoilers: all of them have been taken and most of them have been taken twice because ocs are my lifeblood and i can't stop making more. happy birthday random oc i haven't thought about meaningfully in years

A few have more unique reasons for their birthdays, though! Dicro's is on World Theatre Day, Fray's is close to mine to reference that she used to be a self-insert, and Zhirael's is just the last day of the year (chosen by his friends so they'd have a day to make him eat cake). She doesn't have a Toyhouse profile yet, but Larya is also worth mentioning; her birthday is the day I registered (using her as my persona and username) for the website where I met most of my friends and started getting really into RPing and OCs.

Q57. How do you decide birthdays for your OCs (if your OCs have birthdays)?

Most of the characters I have don't have specific birthdays, but the ones that do tend to have ones that are in months that I feel would best fit them. Some of their birthdays are important in terms of what time of the year they happen, so usually months are more selective while days are usually random. And this only goes for my characters that live on my pseudo-Earth. A few of my non-Earth-living characters have Earth calendar birthday equivalents, but most of them don't. I'd like to make a time and calendar system standard for the rest of my non-Earth worlds, but I haven't had time to sit down and work out the specifics yet. ^^;

I know that Nicole has the same birthday as I do because she's my persona, and Darian just celebrates his birthday on her birthday because that's the day he first arrive to pseudo-Earth and met her, and he doesn't know the equivalent of his real birthday on our calendar. There are a couple other people with relatively random birthdays, like Calik's is in July and Alec's is in October. I know for sure that Theo's birthday is the day I actually created him so I wouldn't forget, but I only have it written down on his Charahub and the site is down as usual. XD

Q56. Which OC of yours has the simplest design? Who has the most complicated design?

Most of my characters have fairly simple designs. I really am not drawn to very complicated looking characters. I prefer natural colors or simplistic designs/patterns. As a result, I'm not really sure who is simplest. I guess I'm going to say Rich, because his design is incredibly basic. I don't have any of my old art of him on this computer, but I did recreate his design in a doll maker game... and aside from lacking a few of his accessories (sunglasses, jewelry), that's basically what he looks like.

Most complicated... again, I don't have a lot of complicated characters. But I think Bix could be considered one of my most complicated designs in terms of her pattern (though her color scheme is literally black and white, so that's pretty simple). I'm not a super stickler on if her spots look exactly how they do in her reference, but I do have a particular eye for how they're supposed to appear. Generally there must be large, hollow black spots across her body, with tinier solid spots closer to her wrists, ankles, and her underbelly. She has no spots on her underbelly (abdomen). Her tail has a distinct pattern of tiny spots along the length of her tail and spine. Finally, she also has specific markings on her face, and a few scars on her body. Her claws also have a particular look to them (right hand claws are always out and colored silver, while the other ones are whitish in color and can be retracted), though I don't generally have people draw to that amount of detail. I suppose it's good that her color scheme is simple, or I might never get art of her. xD

Q57. How do you decide birthdays for your OCs (if your OCs have birthdays)?

I don't normally think about birthdays for my characters. I don't do well with timelines, dates, and the like; if I'm ever forced to think about how old characters are in relation to each other and in the timeline of a story, my brain literally has trouble processing everything. I had to work on ages for my WoW characters (to figure out what events in the official timeline would be relevant to them at what point in their lives) and I swear it took an entire afternoon to research. Everything had to be written down or I would immediately forget what numbers I just crunched. ^^;

I'm pretty much content with knowing what age everyone is (at least relatively speaking), and that's it. I never do birthday "events" or stories for my characters, so there's no reason to know anyway.

I think the only characters of mine who have birthdays are Sam (who shares my birthday, as she is my persona), and Alexander. Alexander's birthday is July 14, which is the birthday of my very first dog. I have no idea why that date has always stuck with me, but it has, so I decided to use it for Alexander's birthday as well. Not because I compare him to my dog, no. xD Just cause.
