Laius seems to always put off this air of not caring about anyone or anything, and many lions give her a wide berth. This isn't completely true - she just thinks about things strictly in terms of the overall collective rather than each individual. She wants the best for everyone - if there are casualties or injuries on the way, then such is life. She's seen so much chaos in the world of Silvarum and has become a bit cold because of it.

However, she's one of the smartest lions in the Regiment, and though she says she's too old to fight, she has the smarts of several lions combined. Though technically a Veteran, she has the influence of a Squad Leader, as her advice, though somewhat blunt, is usually quite good.

Her biggest secret, that hardly anyone knows, is that she's quite accomplished in magic, and can easily defend herself. Laius is just of the opinion that it's good to always have some tricks hidden.

History

Laius and the ruins are very closely linked - she'd put herself up to the task of exploring the odd place for years and years before Brontes and the other lions formed their monster hunting task force. She and an older magician had known vast parts of the place, knew all the puzzles and traps, and knew how to sneak by all the dangers. It had been a magnificent adventure, up until her mentor grabbed a treasure that was booby trapped, and vanished in an instant. Laius had been horrified, and left the ruins that day, with a vow to never return.

True to her word, she didn't, not until Brontes put out a call for lions to help fight back the darkness. Laius was determined not to step foot in there again, if she didn't have to, but really - all these new, young lions, venturing into the darkness with no advice? They'd be dead in a day if they didn't get her helpful advice! So Lai packed up her few belongings, practiced her magic, and then headed towards the ruins once more. Brontes had welcomed her with open paws, and life continued on - in a brand new sort of way.

Brontes knew Laius would be a Veteran from almost the first moment he saw her. She is the kind of lion that has this cold wisdom in her gaze, and he thought that her advice could be invaluable - too invaluable to turn away. However, her age meant that in the battlefield, she might not fare as well as some of the younger lions. In a way, the Veteran role was created just for her. It gives Laius a place in the pride and a home to call her own.

Laius is quite happy with her position - especially because of the respect she's given from everyone else. There's something very nice about everyone treating her well, even when none of them have much clue at all about her magic ability. Perhaps it's her demeanor, or perhaps they just know that she's had more life experience than every last one of them. Whatever it is, she's doing quite well for herself in the Regiment and is glad to be able to help fight against those beasts in the ruins - on her own terms. Being old doesn't mean you're weak, and Laius is the prime example of that. Now if only she could stop scaring the cubs.
