Inheritance

If someone asked Reverie where she thought she'd be in 10 years, the thought of being in a wedding dress and walking down the aisle wouldn't have even come to mind. Considering her repulsion to any romantic situation, she should've remained unmarried. One deal led to another, though, and she was now getting married to a human named Chris in exchange for his inheritance... and his soul.

He seemed unaware that he sold his soul, since he technically didn't offer it, but it was a natural price for what he was asking for. After all, did he really think he'd get away with giving a demon such a pathetic offer as money for something as valuable as companionship? It wasn't as if she could eat his cash.

Either way, what was done was done, and now, she just needed to make sure to not trip over the dress as Journey walked her down the aisle. She couldn't thank xem enough for being such a good butch of honor.

She spotted her future husband's child in the corner of her eye— a sweet little kid with their father's face, whose musical spirit didn't fit their dress. More than anything else, the kid was fighting sleep and homesickness in their mother's lap. She couldn't even blame them.

The officiant, some old priest from the local church, cleared his throat and silenced their audience. Reverie's skin nearly burned from the holiness of it all.

"Do you, Christopher Westerburg, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?" his raspy voice asked.

"I do." His voice didn't shake like she thought it would've, considering he was one of the only people who saw her true demonic form. Was that confidence or just arrogance?

"And do you, Reverie Daemonium, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?" In hindsight, she should've chosen a better fake last name, but she didn't have any other ideas.

"I... I do." She nodded, holding his hands with all of the fake love she could muster. She was more than ready to speed away from him, when—

"You may now kiss the bride."

Fuck.
