Reverie walked along with Noah, her hooves producing a satisfying click as they hit the pavement in time with his steps. They were glamored into heels, of course, but the two of them knew the truth.

For her disguise today, she’d gotten herself something more extravagant than usual; a sparkling blue dress that reached her ankles! Paired with some sapphire jewelry, it made the perfect outfit for the mother-son dance today! She wasn’t technically his mother, sure, but with a bit of magic and bureaucracy, she’d convinced his school she was his guardian. She knew his actual mother would never dare to give her child these experiences, after all, so someone else had to step up to the plate.

“How much money was that dress…? Did you get it for free?” Noah asked, his tiny hand squeezing onto hers. Lately, she’d been teaching him about the importance and value of money (again, stepping up to the plate), but they still had a long way to go.

Reverie squeezed his hand back with a gentle smile. “No, no. It was $100, minimum. Look at the way the dress shines in this light, kid; there’s no way someone would give something like this away for free! Though, between you and me, I wouldn’t complain if they did.” She laughed the sly kind of giggle she used whenever she was hiding something.

Technically, she did get it for free. A little shoplifting went a long way for a demon like her, after all. He was a human, though, so she was far more hesitant about teaching him the joys of crime; he needed to behave like a human, which meant no crimes, and they were in public anyways. All things considered, he didn't need to know that little detail about her new dress.

Noah was none the wiser, though, and with a crack of a smile on his face, the two prepared to walk into the elementary school for his dance.
