Sofa Shenanigans

With all of her effort raising Noah, Reverie had to celebrate the small victories where she could— and in this case, "where she could" was on her couch with a cup of apple juice while listening to her kid ask questions about the outside world. Her silk robe fell over her figure like a blanket as her warm gaze landed on the nervous child.

"Should I leave my door open while I sleep or not...?" Noah asked, moving to sit on the floor by her.

Reverie thought about it for a moment, propping herself up on the armchair. "I'd say whichever one makes you feel safer, kid. What's got you thinking about that?"

"I just... I saw a story in the news of some family's house burning down, and... if I keep my door open, someone could come in and hurt me, but if I keep it closed, then a fire could happen and I wouldn't know! It's just... it's bad either way, I think... everything I do could hurt me, and I don't wanna be hurt—"

Without hesitation, Reverie lifted Noah up onto the sofa with her, stopping him mid-ramble. "I won't let a damn thing hurt you. My job is to protect you, and I'm going to do just that. Even if an accident does happen, I'll help you out, alright? Your parents are blowing things wildly out of proportion— the world can be a scary place, of course, but people are so much better than you've been made to believe."

Noah looked up to her, his eyes sparkling in the dim living room lights. "Promise?"

The demon smiled gently at him. "Promise."
