REFLECT

Interlude - Night Adventures

Here again. She was so tired. Tamaya gazed vacantly into the darkness of her dreams and sighed internally. What now, then?
The void around her seemed to understand her question... or perhaps it was just her own mind. Well, yes, she supposed it all was her own mind. Dreams are products of the brain, after all. Still, her choice now... was not a choice at all.
"Reflect." That was the word echoing in her mind.
Reflect? Reflect on what? On choices in her sleep that made no difference in the waking world? On what a failure she was? On the fact that she was chosen baselessly, and that would be all their downfall?
Her choices thus far... what meaning did they even have? Her unconscious mind telling her to steel herself, be strong, face up to this... it wasn't as though it changed her conscious self, and the fact that she was powerless to stop this.
No. Heart or mind or body, water, earth, or air, wisdom, strength, or charisma... none of them changed the fact that she was incapable. So, what? What was there to reflect on? That she missed the days she couldn't remember, before she was tossed around between sea and sky, before she was chosen to be the hero who would doom them all? Should she simply sit here and mourn the life she'd never been given a chance to live, one where she could be free and happy and not spend every moment of her life, waking or otherwise, filled with an overwhelming sense of dread and self-loathing?
She couldn't change her past. And she couldn't change that the titan grew nearer by the second. This is what had been chosen for her. No amount of reflection could undo what had already happened, and what was now coming to pass.
So instead, she just closed her eyes and tried again to sleep.
Perhaps, if she could find sleep within these dreams, she would at least be well rested when the end came.
