#25. Familiar

Audun walked through the section of woods that she didn’t often pass through, once again her mind drifting in thought. She couldn’t even bring herself to search for artifacts right now, feeling like she was knee deep in way too many odd occurrences this month. It had been packed full of strange and stressful events, and even though some experiences were turning out good, it was getting harder to focus on those. She sighed and sat down by a tree, closing her eyes to try and clear her mind. She felt trapped in her thoughts.

Just then she heard a rustle and looked up, seeing a little orange snout poking out of the nearby brush and staring at her. She blinks a few times in confusion. Finally, the hiding fox stepped out fully, still cautiously staring from a distance. Audun stared back, but in confusion rather than caution. Slowly the fox began walking closer to her, and as she got a better look at its coloring and got a firm look into its eyes, a wave of familiarity washed over her. This fox… It couldn’t be… Was it the same one she had freed from the trap before? She just sat there silently, not wanting to scare it away as it slowly crept over to her. It sniffed at her hand that was resting on the ground beside her, before it actually pressed up beside her and curled up into a roll to rest with her. She couldn’t help but feel tears prick at her eyes as she began to softly pet the fox. She whispered, “You’re here to help me out of my trap too, aren’t you?”
