story & relations
Zebra was born as one of many soldiers in Earth's Beta kindergarten. Her calm, dominant personality made her a natural leader, perfect for commanding a small squad of quartzes. Whenever someone tried to oppose her leadership, Zebra was quick to defeat them. That said, she insured none of her closest comrades felt discriminated among Homeworld's troops, which would explain their lack of interest in joining the Crystal Gems.
During the final evacuation day, she and her squad fleet from the battlefield and forced themselves to the galaxy warp. Knowing Homeworld might punish them for treason, Zebra led the others straight to the nearest underground opening. They'd planned to join others once they're certain no punishment was in sight. While the teleporter side effects caught up to them, nevertheless, their rash decision saved Zebra, Spot, Noree and Bumblebee from getting captured.
Relations
Melon
Phe, egoistic pebble~ I used to be super irritated with their audacity to boss us around. Looking back, I'm actually grateful. Without their determination, my fellas and I would still rot in those dark kindergartens. And look at us now! Melon even found us a good job in Yellow's court.
Citri
She's Melon's muscles. Even though her dexterity isn't at its old-time peak, Citri can definitely defeat you in combat before she starts to feel even remotely tired. I respect that.
Spot
Occasionally, I forget Spot fought in the same war. No offense, I care for her dearly, but nowadays she's too clumsy to defend herself. I have to insure Spot is never left behind. Otherwise, I have no clue what would we do without her warming smile brighting our day...
Noree
Noree is good to have around. She can be a bit of a prankster at times, but when manners get serious, she's the one reaching out with her helping hand. She can also throw the best punches!
Bee
Bhaha! Bee is a bit of a weirdo, but in the good way! Despite nearly never showing her eyes, she always had a sharp sense for finding illegal objects lying on the ground. You would be surprised by the amount of valuable trash stored in her gemstone.
Uvarovite
At your service, ma'am.
Ocean
I can only imagine what a remarkable soldier she would be without the corruption. Well, maybe one day we'll see. If Spot and Melon taught me anything, it's to always have hope.
Opinions & details
The diamonds: "*Salutes* Let the stars bless them."
Crystal gems: "They stole our home, our empress, our future, our pride! I hope their corrupted husks suffer on that planet."
The war: "While I don't miss Earth, I still would do anything to go back and change the course of war."
Earth: "It never reached its full potential. *Sigh* If only that wasn't the case. Spot truly misses Earth. She went as far as to carve each of us a mask resembling one of the organic creatures we've met. I believe my is called 'zebra'... Yeaaah, the rebels weren't exactly creative when it comes to names. A fifth of them are literally named after gems."
Cross-gem fusions: "They're the real war machines."
Corruption: "I've grown accustomed to it. Still, I look forward to the day corruption will be cured."
Quartzes: "No matter the planet, quartzes from the Beta kindergarten can't be mistaken for any other. From their appearance to a distinctive humor, there's always a way to tell them apart. And yes, I enjoy meeting them in public. But the dearest quartzes in the universe are those in my squad. I'll do anything to protect them."
Fear: "I fear ambush attacks from behind. To counter this, Noree and I cover each other's back when we're surrounded by a group of enemies."
Defects: "Listen carefully, runt. There's no debating that most of us betas had emerged defective. Now, just because I'm not one of them, it isn't an excuse to talk about them badly. So, be cautious with your words right now or else this fist ENDS UP IN YOUR FACE!"
