Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Long blond hair that trails to mid-back, blue streaks that tend to shift
  • Eyes are either yellow or royal blue
    • They turn yellow when using his Lytenin rifting, blue when using his Crystalia rifting, and appear almost white while in elemental state
  • Tan skin, although he appears a bit more pale in elemental form due to the light he emits
    • Body is made out of electricity while in elemental form, and he can manipulate her shape however he likes
    • Very rarely takes a crystal elemental form or a mix of it with electricity, which can be some blend between solid and energy - Crystalia rifting usually manifests as blue crystals, but they can sometimes be yellow if he’s also using his Lytenin rifting
  • 6'4" in height
  • Physically fit with a decently muscled, athletic build
  • Elemental markings around left eye
  • Both ears are double pierced

Clothing Style

Kamanari’s casual style for wandering around and avoiding bounty hunters is surprisingly plain and pretty boring, by his description. He tends to dress in clothing that would probably fit in well in certain modern Taliac societies, mostly because he likes getting clothing smuggled from Taliac. His most common outfits usually include worn out jeans, which sometimes have some stripes or other geometric designs on them, along with some kind of T-shirt, and sneakers. His shirts are frequently band tees from Taliac. His accessories are usually a lightning orb pendant and whatever earrings he feels like wearing that day, although they are usually studs and pretty simple in design.

He will usually wear different styled outfits if he’s spending extended time in Detrati, but it is rare since he is always traveling. (Detrati outfit due for redesign)

If forced to spend time at “home” in Catalia with his aunt, he usually ends up wearing fancier clothing but in a desheveled way, since he hates dressing like a noble like his aunt would prefer him to. His most common look at his aunt’s house is usually nice dress pants, a fancy shirt mostly unbuttoned, and either dress shoes or his usual sneakers depending if he can quickly switch them out before his aunt stops him.

Personality

Kamanari is a cheeky and irresponsible man who is almost constantly on the move due to the obscenely high bounty on him. First impressions usually paint him as somewhat quirky, relaxed, and a bit snarky. He comes off as somewhat rude and irreverent to more proper people, but the culture of people he usually gravitates toward usually views him as clever, mellow, and charming. Kamanari can be rather lazy at times and doesn’t like being saddled with rigid expectations or responsibilities, but he’s certainly not lazy about doing anything according to his ever-changing whims. He’s not afraid to voice his opinions, and he never takes himself too seriously. He is generally an easy person to approach and talk to since he has a healthy sense of humor, if you can get over his often-rough first impression. However, he can be a little overly suspicious of strangers and is a touch paranoid about bounty hunters catching up with him, so he rarely stays in the same place for very long.

To those closest to Kamanari, he is loyal and pretty ride-or-die about supporting their goals and motivations. He is usually pretty chill and well-humored in casual interactions, and even though he can speak a little roughly at times, he’s a lot more down to earth and soft than his speaking habits imply. He can be pretty rude when things are going poorly around him or if he feels like the people around him are making stupid or reckless decisions, but he’s the type to put himself in harm’s way to keep others out of trouble if he feels they are too vulnerable or just too incompetent to take care of themselves. He’ll be very vocal and honest when he‘s complaining about having to go out of his way, but he has too much of a conscience to simply be a bystander. Kamanari will always act upon his gut feeling and instincts, and he rarely ever plans ahead and tends to wing it more often than not. This leads him to often forget his commitments and responsibilities at times, but he rarely feels guilty about it since he usually avoids those when he’s aware of them anyway.

Abilities

  • Lytenin rifting - rank 4/5
  • Crystalia rifting - rank 5/5
  • Skilled in hand to hand combat and some bladed weapons, although he prefers to fight unarmed
  • Elemental shapeshifting
  • Increased strength, agility, and stamina along with resilience to most physical attacks
  • Extremely flexible
  • His Crystalia rifting makes him immune to Anti rifting

Strengths

  • Confident, clever, and quick witted
  • Charismatic, observant, and resourceful
  • Adapts well to change, independent, and has a strong conscience even if he wouldn’t admit it
  • Good humored, doesn’t let negativity keep him down, and faces adversity and his own mistakes with grace

Weaknesses

  • Flighty, lazy, and tends to shirk responsibilities and most commitments
  • Although he’s easy to get along with, he comes off as overly sarcastic and snarky, so doesn’t seem approachable on first impressions
  • Despite being capable of making mature life choices, he comes off as immature and unreliable because he doesn’t like doing anything that doesn’t suit his whimsy
  • Stubborn, hates formalities, and hard to get a hold of when needed

 Backstory

Kamanari was quite the anomaly when he was born, for even though both of his parents were purely Electricatalian, he was born as a dual-elemental with both Lytenin and Crystalia rifting. Crystalcatalians are already a rarity across the Eternity, especially since the Crystalia Element has been missing for millennia, so the fact that Kamanari was born with this as a “rogue element” was extremely unusual. Regardless, his parents raised him normally until they disappeared one day. Kamanari was then taken in by his aunt and uncle, who stated that his parents were “hunted down by terrible people.” His aunt, Zarajin, was particularly coddling and overprotective of him as a result of this, but he grew especially close with his uncle, Raiden, since he was more lenient about allowing him space to explore and take some risks to learn new things.

It was also Raiden who suggested Kamanari take some time to learn to defend himself and master his rifting from the Electricatalians of Detrati, which is where Raiden was from originally. Kamanari came to see Detrati as his true home and grew comfortable there with the tightly-knit community and his peers in training with the Detrati Rogues. It was here that he met his current girlfriend, Lylaea, and his closest friends, Ratralast and Rycasta. Unfortunately, shortly after completing his training and becoming a fully-fledged Detrati Rogue, the town was raided by elemental hunters from Elicilsika. They were seeking out Kamanari and indicated they had some hand in his parents’ disappearance, but they ultimately would give him no answers about their fates, and Raiden gave his life trying to keep the hunters from taking Kamanari as well. Out of sorrow and rage, Kamanari’s Crystalia rifting surged and ripped through the hunters, leaving few survivors to retreat. He was devastated by the loss of his uncle, whom he had grown to view him as a father-figure over the years, and when Zarajin insisted he return home to Catalia to keep him protected from more hunters, he could only numbly comply. He disappeared from the public eye for about a year or so, but he eventually returned to Detrati to reunite with his best friends and to get away from his aunt’s increasingly restrictive coddling.

Around this time, Kamanari became aware while visiting Daliarivon that there was a massive bounty for his capture, and he could only assume it was set by the elemental hunters from before. Various bounty hunters would then confront him wherever he went, and it became an unrelenting hassle, especially once the hunters started tracking him back to Detrati. Kamanari had no choice but to continuously travel to keep Detrati safe, and to this day he keeps on the move. He doesn’t have that many goals for himself, nor does he have a particularly strong motivation or ambition driving him. His priorities are as follows: don’t get caught, don’t let Auntie force you back into noble life, and try to visit Detrati and Lylaea in particular whenever possible.

Trivia:

  • Kamanari’s concept was made by the same friend who made Aaron Vutan’s character when prompted to create a “partner” for his character in the story I was using them in. Kamanari was originally a lightning elemental with no humanoid form, and his name was Thundero. I later revamped him into what he is now.
    • His name is based on the Japanese word "kaminari," which means thunder. Pretty sure I stole the name from my sister's Raichu, because I'm a big stealy-stealpants, as usual. XP
    • His last name is just a play on "lightning strike."
  • His favorite color is blue.
    • Usually has his eyes yellow in public, but he prefers to have them blue otherwise.
    • Lylaea has noted that she loves his blue eyes, so he always has them as blue when around her.
  • Was very close with his uncle and basically considered him to be his father. His real father was more like a noble like his sister/Kamanari’s aunt, even though they didn’t lead an especially posh life compared to how his aunt liked to live. Kamanari found his uncle particularly interesting due to his different background, and his differing perspective and insight was refreshing to him when noble life got too stuffy.
  • His favorite food is oranges. Probably because of Lylaea’s family’s orange orchard and how accessible the fruit is in general in Detrati.
  • Out of his closest friends from childhood (Lylaea, Ratralast, and Rycasta), Kamanari is the oldest by a few months, even though they are all about the same age. The next oldest is Lylaea, and then Rycasta, and Ratralast is the youngest.
    • Their age order references the order they were created and the order they appeared in my old profile filing system.
  • He holds the highest bounty in the Eternity that is worth more than the projected worth of the Elavian royal family, and he's not entirely sure why. He’s not sure if it’s because the elemental hunters really think he’s worth that price for capture, or maybe it’s because he’s an exceedingly rare elemental type and some collector wants him instead.
    • His reputation has somehow warped into having a bounty "worth more than Elavia" rather than "worth more than the Elavian royal family." Which makes it a little ridiculous to say that he's worth more than an entire planet, but he's had little luck trying to explain that to greedy bounty hunters.
    • Eventually he does figure out where this bounty amount has come from: the Xalikar family, which is an extremely wealthy and powerful demonic family from Emdrea. The Xalikars are known to have an opulent "Collection" of the rarest items and specimens of the Eternity, which does include living specimens. Kamanari can only guess that the bounty is set to catch him live in order to add him to such a Collection.
  • As a child, he was still rather stubborn and preferred to chase his own whimsy rather than facing his responsibilities. He could have been described as rebellious, but when left to his own devices he was relatively quiet and unassuming. He preferred to keep to himself and explore things he was curious about at his own pace, and he only warmed up to socializing more after living in Detrati for his training.
  • Kamanari and Lylaea were likely my first asexual couple, even if I didn’t know the term back then. I always knew they were a couple but never had interest in “typical couple expectations” like getting married and having children. Later on when I got older, it included them not having interest in sex either, because I didn’t know what that was when I first made them. XP Now it’s pretty obvious that they’re both asexual and are just fine as a romantic couple without all that other nonsense.
  • Kamanari and Lylaea would be open to the idea of getting married, but it wouldn’t really mean all that much to them and would mostly be performative to other people. That’s the main reason why they haven’t, but if either of them had to be married for other reasons, then it would probably be fine.
    • Primarily he’s been avoiding the subject because his aunt is always badgering him about continuing the family name and having children, which he’s not interested in.
    • Would probably be more interested in marrying Lylaea if it would increase his chances at getting to travel to Taliac, since Lylaea’s mother is from Taliac and her niece, Adeleida, has gotten to move from Detrati to Taliac to live with her.
  • Kamanari does actually enjoy traveling, but he’s gotten kind of tired of doing it out of necessity and actually craves some time to settle in one place and relax.
  • Out of his small circle of friends, which includes Lylaea, Ratralast, and Rycasta, Kamanari probably dislikes socializing with other people the second-most behind Ratralast. However, Kamanari is much better at putting up a public facade and faking it.
    • Lylaea is actually probably tied with him for how much they dislike socializing with strangers. Lylaea is better at speaking to people on a professional/formal level though since her family interacts with a lot of people through their “business.” Kamanari is much better at winging it in casual/personal settings though, and he tends to lead conversations when he thinks that Lylaea isn’t enthused about having those casual chats with strangers/acquaintances.
  • Kamanari as a weird hobby of checking his own bounty and trying to guess how much it has increased since the last time he’s checked it. He’s never gotten it exactly right though, it always increases more than he expects, and he has no idea why.
  • Lylaea once used Kamanari as ”currency” at an auction, citing his high bounty. Kamanari then escaped from the auctioneers after Lylaea collected her purchase. He was mad at her for maybe 5 minutes at most.
    • "I'd break up with you for that if I wasn't so genuinely in love with you." "Oh, that's a shame, isn't it?" "Yeah, it's the worst."
  • Although he does love his aunt, he does not like being around her since she is very much a control freak about his life choices, his clothing, his tasks, and what he should ultimately be doing with his time. He knows that she thinks she’s doing what is best for him, but he doesn’t have the desire to be harsh outright with her. Kamanari takes on a much more whiny and immature demeanor when forced to be around her, like he regresses back into his young self who was forced to comply to her nagging demands.
    • The main things he doesn’t like her pushing on him are ”formalities.” She tends to nag him about dressing appropriately for his noble stature, speaking and acting with etiquette, and resuming his noble life in Catalia again. Obviously he has no interest in such thing.
    • He also hates getting nagged about eventually getting married and continuing the family line, especially since he has no siblings and no other cousins. He sometimes will grumble about how maybe his aunt should just find a new husband and have her own heirs instead, but he would never actually say that to her since he knows she has no interest in finding someone else to “replace” her late husband, whom she loved very much.
    • He knows his aunt probably nags him about it so much since he’s been in a relationship with Lylaea since they were teenagers, and in his aunt’s mind they should have committed years ago. Neither he nor Lylaea are interested in having children or even the act of “making children“ in general, so it’s a tired subject for them.
  • Kamanari has a habit of getting most of his clothing from Taliac-inspired vendors or vendors who smuggle Taliac goods out, so his outfits look weirdly “modern“ compared to the people he spends the most time with. He’s probably the most knowledgeable about Taliac in general out of all his friends, since Taliac is one of his longest-lasting curiosities.
    • His friends call him a "big Taliac nerd," which he readily admits to, referring to Taliac as his "special interest planet."
    • Heartbroken by the fact that his bounty has barred him from visiting Taliac, since he is too “high risk.”
  • Technically an official Detrati Rogue, but his uncle was killed and he left to return to Catalia before he could do any official "work" as a Rogue. And he has been too absent from Detrati to really fulfill any work either, but then again he can probably coast by thanks to Lylaea without having to get a real job. If he can return to Detrati eventually.
  • He is rather good at dancing, but he wouldn’t say so considering there are formally trained dancers alongside the Detrati Rogues, which he never learned aside from watching Lylaea and Rycasta. He was forced to learn some formal dances while he was living with his aunt, and he’s made it a habit to learn various dances from other cultures, especially Taliac, to bring back to Lylaea.
    • “I try to learn a new dance before I return to Detrati so I can attempt to teach it to Lylaea. There’s no easier way of getting her to laugh.”
    • Kamanari regularly laments missing his girlfriend when out traveling, and if ever asked what exactly he misses the most about her, he will always answer, “I miss dancing with her.”
    • He’s remarked he probably would’ve had more fun taking the dancer training instead of the rogue training, but that’s not exactly in line with tradition. Rogues include any gender, but the dancers are a women-only group. That hasn’t stopped him from learning indirectly by observing and practicing with Lylaea and Rycasta.
    • "You know, if you really wanted to be a Rogue Dancer, you could just... be a woman. It's not hard." "Yeah but I don't WANT to be a woman, I just want to dance. Is that too much to ask?" According to tradition, yes.
  • Kamanari is also good at holding a tune, probably better at singing than any of his friends. He was also forced into vocal training by his aunt and only knew a bunch of boring formal songs during his childhood. Nowadays he teaches himself random popular songs from Taliac so he can sing them to Lylaea, mostly because she is always baffled at how weird the lyrics are.
    • Has definitely sang Never Gonna Give You Up to Lylaea at least a few times, but she obviously doesn’t understand the joke. She just thinks it‘s a weird but kind of sweet song in general. She like to tease him about singing about “commitment” when she knows he’s always running from those.
  • Has amazing memory when it comes to memorizing words spoken to him, and he can probably recite a speech back to someone after hearing it once. He has no idea why this is the case and doesn’t particularly put forth extra effort into listening to and remembering what people say. Apparently he just remembers sound patterns very distinctly and he can repeat basically anything he’s heard back.
    • Very rarely needs to ask people to repeat themselves.
    • He can even repeat back words he doesn’t necessarily understand, since it’s all just noise to him.
    • He is extremely good at learning the lyrics to songs and only needs to hear a song once before he can sing it back. The only hurdle might be his vocal skills depending on how complicated the song is, but for the most part he can handle most standard songs.
    • He uses this skill mostly to serenade Lylaea with random songs he’s heard from Taliac, especially if he’s also trying to teach her a corresponding dance.
  • Kamanari was one of my favorite characters when I first made him, and he was probably the first character I made and actually wrote enough with to develop a strong, cheeky personality, since most of my prior characters were played more straight-forward in writing. That’s not to say I didn’t write silly or humorous characters before him, but Kamanari was probably my first attempt at an actual adult among all my younger characters, and so I actively made an effort to make him more mature and experienced than most of my other characters who were usually going into new experiences and adventures. I did have adult characters before him, but they were all pretty serious, so Kamanari felt like the first adult character of mine who actually felt like a real person. ^^;
    • I think that Kamanari’s writing voice in general was basically a “prototype” for Neoka’s current writing voice, since they both have very similar speaking habits, especially when exasperated. I would say that Kamanari is like ”Neoka if he was emotionally stable.” They also both like music and dancing, but Kamanari in general is a little more well adjusted and confident, and also a bit more crass with his language.
  • Somewhat annoyed that Lylaea is teaching her nephew, Trakatrus, to refer to him as "papa." She thinks it's funny just because it dismays him so much.
    • "Papa~" "Noooooooo, not papa. Ly, you did this!"
  • As teens, Kamanari would regularly sneak out to go to Avidrame, frequently with Ratralast, to visit the exotic vendors and browse the smuggled goods that come in from Taliac. This is primarily where he gets most of his Taliac items, like clothing, music players, accessories, etc.
  • Old Charahub blurb: "A free-spirited Elicilsikan noble, he'd rather spend his time living on the edge and avoiding formalities at all costs."
  • Old file number: 32 (23)
    • New file number: 180
