Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Waist-length red hair
  • Green eyes
  • Fair skinned with a decent tan
  • Medium to somewhat tall in height
  • Physically fit with a slender but lean-muscled build

Clothing Style

Red seems to always wear the same outfit consisting of a green long sleeved shirt and jeans with brown shoes and a crescent pendant. Sometimes he wears a shorter sleeved green shirt, but more often than not it's long sleeved, which is weird since he lives in the desert region of Orre. Why? Because simple outfits are easier on the comic artist. I mean *cough* I don't know what you're talking about.

Personality

Red tends to be somewhat serious most of the time and is not easily impressed. He tends to almost always have a deadpan expression or just a neutral one when talking to people he's comfortable being around, although he can sometimes have an explosive temper if pushed too far. He doesn't particularly like other people, especially if they're annoying. Annoying qualities to him consist of hyperactiveness, not understanding personal boundaries, excessive aggressiveness, lack of an inside voice, etc. Red takes his responsibilities very seriously, and he also doesn't like to talk about his past in too much detail. He lives with his mother and their Pokemon, and it's clear he's still a little touchy when it comes to talking about his father, who apparently died during his childhood. Kit is his closest friend, and Red only seems to confide in her and the other Pokemon on his team.

Abilities

  • No supernatural abilities
  • Skilled at driving a motorcycle and a few other vehicles
  • Skilled in hand to hand combat and some acrobatics, although he primarily uses these skills to protect himself rather than to attack others

Strengths

  • Resourceful, quick witted, and adaptable
  • Clever, flexible, and skilled in espionage
  • Enduring, level headed, and not intimidated easily
  • Focused on his goals, dauntless, and doesn't give up easily

Weaknesses

  • Rude, blunt, and not terribly sensitive
  • Not very emotional or enthusiastic, and he doesn't humor others much
  • A loner, doesn't accept help often, and slow to trust
  • Stubborn, closed off, and touchy when talking about his past/his father

Backstory

From what he's mentioned of his past, Red was born in Orre and grew up with his first Pokemon companion, his Vulpix named Kit. His mother was the leader of a biker gang and his father secretly worked during the formation of Team Cipher.

A friend of his father worked as a scientist studying preliminary work that would eventually become the Shadow Pokemon project. At this stage, the scientist used stolen research from a certain rich criminal geneticist to create an altered Pokemon clone that combined multiple Pokemon. However since the research was stolen and somewhat incomplete, the creature turned out disfigured and unstable, and the introduction of the early Shadow Pokemon experiments on it didn't improve its condition. For the first few months the creature was erratic, yet capable of being handled. Red was familiar with the dark creature during this time and ended up spending quite a bit of time with it along with his other Pokemon when his father and the scientist would meet.

Somewhere along the line the clone became too unstable and went on a rampage. Red's father ended up fighting it and his friend, who insisted he could get it under control. In the end, the clone was recaptured and sealed away, but the scientist and Red's father lost their lives in the battle. Red, being witness to this battle, is still rather haunted by the event and will do anything to honor his father's last wish to keep the creature from being released or further studied.

Currently Red still lives with his mother in the desert of Orre. They live a relatively normal life, other than the chaos that occurs whenever their only neighbors tend to stir things up.

Red acquired most of his Pokemon as a child and as gifts from his parents. Kit was his first companion, and she was the baby of his father's own two Ninetales. He then received Rosaline as a Jigglypuff, which used to be one of his mother's many Jigglypuffs (this particular one attacked the police when his father was speeding). His father fished up Benvolio as a Chinchou in a puddle in the middle of the desert (no, not an oasis, a puddle, which he never actually fully explained), and he also gave him Balthazar after stepping into its sand trap. Tybalt is the only Pokemon that Red caught on his own. Later on into the clone research, Red's father also acquired Mercutio as a Ralts from the shipments of smuggled Pokemon, and he gave it to his son to prevent it from being a part of the experiments.

No association to a certain fellow from Kanto. Who needs that lame region when you've got Orre?

You've heard of fanfiction characters. Well this is a fan-character for a fanfiction, OH HO HO. Go check out this person's glorious Pokemon characters for more context. Except I take her world and make it horrible and not cool as she makes it. Whoops.

Trivia:

  • No joke, I forgot that Red was a canon character in Pokemon when I made my Red. I was in the middle of a long Pokemon Colloseum kick and the original Champion Red never came to mind until later. And honestly, my Red's name isn't even Red; it's just a shortening of "Redhead," which is how Sam and Nicole would refer to him because he was never given a name in the comics they were in.
  • When I originally was trying to come up with a Pokemon team for Red, his first four Pokemon were a Ninetales, Wigglytuff, Lanturn, and Skarmory; they were later developed into Kit, Rosaline, Benvolio, and Tybalt. I believe Mercutio and Balthazar came later when I was working on a parody version of Romeo and Juliet including my Pokemon characters.
    • All of Red's Pokemon except for Kit are named after Romeo and Juliet characters.
    • I recreated Red's Pokemon team in my playthrough of Pokemon Platinum. It was tricky playing through it without accidentally overleveling them since they were all traded in from my Pearl game as hatched babies.
  • Red's first appearance in the Pokemon comics featured him losing to Sam in a Pokemon battle. He then insulted her, and she presumably devoured him in exaggerated anime style after turning into a giant phoenix of rage.
    • Yeah, there's a reason "Crazy" is in the title of the comic series.
  • Red's uncle that he doesn't like to talk about is Miror B from Pokemon Colosseum/XD. Miror B is apparently his mom's brother, although I don't know which is older.
    • Red isn't terribly fond of him because he always tries to force him into dance routines.
  • Red originally was meant to fill his father’s role as a secret admin of Cipher, but I obviously changed that later on because that’s not how the hiring process works, I’m sure. Red still knows about Cipher and has some amount of clearance with them, so he’s definitely some kind of agent who just prefers to remain low key about it.
  • His relationships with the other Cipher members varies greatly, since his motives aren’t exactly team centric and he mostly cooperates with them to stay on their good side.
    • Mirror B obviously likes him as his beloved nephew, but Red doesn’t like being around him that much. Red doesn’t exactly dislike him though, just his personality and his ridiculous dancing thing.
    • Dakim, Venus, and Ein aren’t all that fond of him, but mostly they dislike the weird gals he hangs out with. They’re all capable of tolerating him though.
    • Red doesn’t know a whole lot about the Cipher members from Branch B (the XD members), but Lovrina has a huge crush on him and he prefers to stay away from her.
    • Apparently his mom married Greevil, making Greevil his stepdad and Ardos and Eldes his stepbrothers. This was a temporary thing though since his mom was more interested in getting more of a cut out of Cipher in the divorce.
