Erik meets Labramon | Chapter 2

The next day...

“Thanks a lot for the help again, Erik. We can take it from here.” An older man says to a younger kid, Erik. They were at a small animal rescue center, taking care of a small black puppy they just rescued. “It’s no problem, David. Call me if you guys need anything else!” David takes the puppy into another room.

“Oh gosh, look at that! Isn’t he so sweet?” Erik turns around to see a group of 3 girls making googly eyes at him. “He’s so good at taking care of the animals, what a cutie~” Another girl flirts. “Oh, uh, thanks ladies, I appreciate it.” Erik says bashfully. One of the girls waves playfully at him. “Call me~” She says. “Uh, do I know you?” Erik asks.

“AHAHAHAHAHAHAHH!!” All the girls laugh loudly and exaggerated. “Oh, he’s so funny!” One of the girls giggle. “Yeah, haha, so funny...” Erik says quietly.

“Alright then, we’ll see you later Erik! Byeeee!” The girls all wave goodbye to Erik, walking out the front door and giggling to themselves.

“Dang, kid, that’s the 5th group of girls this week!” A young man sitting on a chair behind the front counter sat up. “Heh, yeah, guess I’m pretty popular...” Erik says, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s like that all the time at school, too...”

“Nice. Have you gone out with any of them yet?” The man asks. “No, not yet. So far there’s way too many to choose fro-“

BRIIIIIIIIIING!! Suddenly a telephone on the counter starts ringing. “Hold on a second.” The man picks up the phone, chatting with someone for a minute. After some time, he finally puts the phone down. “Sounds like someone found another stray dog. Said it had pink markings or something? Poor thing probably has an infection.”

“Oh geez, poor thing...” Erik says. “Yeah, I should probably get the others and tell them-“

“Actually, wait a minute!” Erik stops the guy. “You think I could go out there, and...Catch the dog myself?”

“Really? All by yourself?” The man asks. “Yeah, I’ve always wanted to see if I could go out there and catch a stray by myself.” Erik says.

“Well-“

“Come on, I swear it’ll be easy! You don’t even need to tell the others, I can worry about it.” Erik says, walking into another room. After a minute or so, he comes out of the room with a small backpack. “What’s the street they said the dog was on?” He asks. “Uhhh, it was Smith’s street.” The man says.

“Alright, that’s not too far from here! I can go get the dog and be back in less then an hour.” Erik says, walking to the front door.

“Oh, um, alright! Thank you Erik, we really appreciate it. Call us if you need any help!”

“Alright, see you later!” Erik waves goodbye, hurriedly walking out.

Sometime later...

‘Ok, so if I turn right here...’ Erik turns around a path, finally finding the street sign, ‘Smith’s street’. ‘Alright, here we are! Just gotta find that dog...’ Erik thinks to himself. Erik walks down the sidewalk, scanning back and forth between the buildings for the dog. Finally he stops when he hears a rustling noise in a small alleyway. He quietly peeks around the corner, and sees the dog, with a long pink tail, digging in a trash can. ‘That must be him...’ Erik quietly pulls out a leash from his bag, slowly creeping around the corner to approach the dog. Just when Erik was about to approach the dog, it popped out of the trash can, turning around to face Erik.

“Whoa, um...Hi, there...” Erik cautiously reaches one hand out to the dog, who looks at him curiously. “You must be hungry...You, uh, want a treat?” Erik slowly reaches his other arm toward his backpack. Meanwhile, the dog perks up suddenly. “Oh boy, you have some food for me?! I want it, I want it!” The dog suddenly speaks. Erik freezes at this. “Whaaaa?? Did you just...Talk?” Erik asks, baffled.

“Yup! Everyone else seems to be freaked out by me, but you seem pretty nice! I’m Labramon, what’s your name?! Ooh, can I have my treat now?!” Labramon speaks quickly and excitedly, wagging his tail slightly. “It’s Erik, and uh, sure...” Erik pulls out a dog treat, and Labramon quickly grabs it with his mouth, taking a big bite. After chewing a little, Labramon face starts to look disgusted. “EWWWWWW, what is this?! This is nasty!” Labramon struggles to swallow the treat. “It’s supposed to be a dog treat...” Erik says quietly, still baffled by the fact that he’s talking to a dog. “What?! Why would you give me that?! I’m not a dog!” Labramon exclaims. “Wha- You’re not a dog?! Wha-What are you then?!” Erik asks, more baffled then ever. “I’m a Digimon! I’m from the- Ohhh, I don’t have time to explain this!” Labramon quickly looks around himself, with a worried expression. “I need to find my Digivice!”

“Digi-What?” Erik asks. “My Digivice!” Labramon exclaims. “It’s a little blue device that I always keep with me, but I lost it when I came to the human world! It’s super duper important and I gotta find it!” Labramon walks forward, looking out into the street. “Wait! Digimon, Digivice, and coming to the human world?! What does this all mean?!” Erik asks, still baffled. “I’ll tell you when I find my Digivice!” Labramon sniffs the air.

“Um, I can help you find it, if you want.”

Labramon perks up, turning to face Erik. “Really, you’ll help?! Oh, thank you thank you! The Digivice is blue, and it looks like this!” Labramon makes an awkward shape with his claws. “Um, okay...”

Erik stands up, ready to follow Labramon. “Geez, I’m really talking to a magical dog helping him look for an item that’s also probably magical? I’m really losing my marbles...” Erik whimpers to himself.

“Aw, you lost something too? It’s ok, I’ll help you find your marbles after we find my Digivice!” Labramon says before running off in another direction.

Sometime later...

The two walked around all over town, looking for the Digivice. They lost track of time, spending over an hour looking for the Digivice. After some time, they arrived at a beach next to a huge bridge. “Maybe it’s under here?” Labramon asks, sniffing towards the huge, dark area under the bridge. “I don’t know why It’d be there, but...” Labramon ignores Erik, running towards the bridge underpass. “I guess we’ve looked everywhere else...” Erik says, running after Labramon. The two kept a steady pace through the underpass, until they finally see a faint light at the end of the dark tunnel. “Hey, look! I found it I found it!” Labramon cheers happily, running towards the small Digivice. Once Erik got closer he could finally make out what the Digivice looked like.

The Digivice looked dirty and damp, and was laying next to a drain cover.  Labramon approached the Digivice, ready to pick it up...

“BLAAAAAAAURGH!!” Suddenly a giant sludge Digimon popped out of the sewer cover!  It somehow squeezed its whole body through the tiny hole, facing the two. “Wha-what is that?!” Erik shouts. Erik soon becomes disgusted, covering his nose. “Oh my god, it smells!”

“It’s a Raremon! These things are known for their smell...” Labramon growls, staring down the Raremon. The giant sludge Digimon looks down, noticing the Digivice, then reaching a claw towards it. “Oh no you don’t!” Labramon growls. “RETRIEVING BARK!!” Labramon let’s out a high powered bark, causing the Raremon to stand back for a moment. “Labramon, we need to get outta here!” Erik shouts. “No, I need that Digivice!” Labramon quickly dives under Raremon, grabbing the Digivice with his mouth. “Here, catch!” Labramon throws the Digivice to Erik, who catches it smoothly. The second it lands in his hands, a bright light shines from it, mesmerizing Labramon. “Whoooa, could that mean...?” Labramon was so distracted by the light that he almost forgot about Raremon, who seemed to be upset by the bright light. “RAAAAAAAURHGH!!” The Raremon takes a swipe at Labramon, knocking him against the side of the tunnel. “Labramon, NO!” Raremon was standing right over the fallen Digimon, ready to attack. “BREATH OF DECAY!!” Raremon spits a thick sludge at Labramon, who quickly gets saved by Erik diving in to save him before the attack could hit him. However, a small drop of sludge hits Erik’s arm, burning it slightly. “OWW, god...” Erik whimpers.

“Erik, why would you do that?!” Labramon whimpers. “You needed help...It’s ok, I’ll be fine...” Erik whimpers, looking at his arm.

‘Erik, he...He protected me.’ Labramon thought, worried.

“...I need to protected him now, too.”

Suddenly a bright light burst from the Digivice, bathing Labramon in the golden light.

“LABRAMON DIGIVOLVE TO...

...

“SEASARMON!!”

“Whoa...” Erik was mesmerized by Labramon’s transformation. Seasarmon’s fur had a bright light coming off of it, which seemed to hurt Raremon. “BLAAARGH!!!” The Raremon takes a blind swipe at Seasarmon, who swiftly dodges the attack. “You won’t hurt me or my partner anymore.” Seasarmon growls, standing protectively in front of Erik. “Erik, don’t worry. It’s my turn to protect you now.” Seasarmon says, turning his head to Erik. “Um, ok...” Erik says quietly, clutching the Digivice tightly. Seasarmon takes a step towards the angry sludge Digimon. “SHARP CLAWS!!” Seasarmon takes a swipe at Raremon with light filled claws. “NOOO....RAAAUUURRGHH!!” The Raremon growls in pain, trying to scoot away from Seasarmon. “I think the light hurts him...” Erik says to himself. He looks at the Digivice for a moment, which gives him an idea. Erik takes a few steps forward, aiming the Digivice at Raremon. A bright light shines out of the Digivice, hurting Raremon and causing him to growl in pain.

“Nice work, Erik! The light seems to hurt him deeply...” Seasarmon says. The Raremon falls backward weakly. “RAAAAARrrrrugh.....” The Raremon seemed to be getting weaker. Seasarmon takes one more intimidating step towards the sludge. “He’s getting weak. One more attack should defeat him.” Seasarmon says, preparing an attack. “SUN’S COURAGE!!” Seasarmon leaps into the air, blasting light filled arrows at Raremon! The Raremon growls in pain, it’s body slowly dissipating, followed by it poofing into dust. The dust swirls around Seasarmon, merging into his body.

“Nice job Labramon, you did it! Or should I say Seasarmon?” Erik cheers happily. Seasarmon seemed to be distracted by something, running over to the sewer drain. “What is it?” Erik asks. The two run over to the drain hole, Seasarmon degenerating back into Labramon while running. Labramon looks down the drain hole. “Did you see another monster?” Erik asks. “No, I just thought I saw something fall down here...” Labramon mutters. Labramon keeps looking down for a moment, then quickly perks up. “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it! I actually digivolved to champion level!” Labramon says excitedly, happily jumping onto Erik. “It’s all thanks to you, Erik! Thank you so much!” Labramon hugs Erik tightly.

“Wait, I helped you uh...Digivolve?” Erik asks. “Gee, I really don’t understand all this.”

“Don’t understand what?” Labramon asks.

“Well...Everything! You’re a magical talking dog who turned into an even BIGGER talking dog, and you just fought and defeated a giant talking sludge monster!” Erik says, running one hand through his hair. “Well, that’s ok if you don’t understand! There’s a lot of things I don’t understand either, but I don’t worry about it!” Labramon says, smiling warmly. Erik couldn’t help but smile back.

“Hey, why don’t we go somewhere, and...Get you some real food? I bet you’re hungry after that fight.” Labramon perks up at the mention of food.

“Yay that sounds awesome!! Oh, but first...”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t we need to go find your marbles?”
