Iso's OC Question of the Day

Posted 8 years, 4 months ago (Edited 6 years, 10 months ago) by Isoprene

Listen, there's nothing I love more than answering random questions about my OCs and seeing other people answer random questions about their OCs. Conveniently, I also love coming up with random questions and asking them. So, hey, why not make it a daily event? In this thread I'll post a question every day, all of them related to OCs! Sometimes it'll be about your feelings about your OCs ("who's your favorite oc?" or "who was your first oc?") and sometimes it'll be questions asked toward your OCs themselves ("what are your ocs' favorite colors?" or "would your ocs rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?"). You can answer in-character or out of character, answer for multiple characters or just one, whatever you want!

I'll try to ask these early in the day, and you're always welcome to answer any ones that you've missed! Feel free to answer as many as you want at once; just be sure to label which question you're answering! I also have a huge list of questions waiting in the wings, but if you have any questions you'd like to see asked feel free to message me and I'll credit and ping you if I end up using your question!

Q1. Who was the first OC you made a profile for on Toyhouse? Why them?

The first OC I made a profile for here was Dicro Corrune! He's the most well-known OC of mine amongst my friends (most of my friends don't have a lot of profiles up yet but he'd have the most links), is probably my most important character overall even though I have like 50 different OC universes and he's only connected to a few, and if he's not my favorite OC overall he's pretty darn close. There's a lot of me in him, too, so I feel like putting him up first provides a decent insight into both the kind of person I am and the kind of characters you'll probably see from me. Plus he has the most images, the most writing, is the most fun to RP with, and is one of my oldest active OCs... it was an obvious choice for me!

Q83. Which OC of yours is the most easily discouraged?

Hm... well I'm sure Exodus is pretty easy to talk out of doing things. His confidence in himself is already very shaky, so even a simple "You suck at doing this," is enough to make him stop and doubt himself for all eternity. ^^; He needs a lot of encouragement from his supervisors and colleagues to keep him on the right track. Hal is also rather easily discouraged without a guiding force behind him. Since he has issues with short term memory loss, he has trouble learning things sometimes, so if he's not getting positive feedback or non-judgmental help with his progress he'll easily give up and determine he's just not good enough to succeed. He and his girlfriend had a pretty shaky start when they met each other in a ballroom dancing class, but he ended up doing better once she started being more encouraging and less "UGH YOU SUCK" about it. Even though he likes dancing with her still, he definitely needs her to keep encouraging him when around other dancers since they'll easily tear him down due to his fragile confidence without her backing him up. Jasper is also rather easy to discourage from doing things, but he's also rather easy to encourage at the same time. He's almost always in a constant state of "I'm doing something wrong" about everything he does, even simply standing around. His band mates are very delicate about delivering constructive criticism, since he responds well to suggestions but cries and runs away if it's presented to him as "You aren't doing this right."

Q84. Have your OCs (or anyone else's) ever been in one of your dreams?

Oh plenty. Heck, one of my friends actually had a dream about my OCs a long time ago, and she ended up describing them to me since they were only written characters at that point. And that's how they ended up getting designs. XD But I have lots of dreams about my babies, and on the other hand I have plenty of dreams that cause me to make more babies. :P Dont' take that out of context. I also have occasional dreams with Minty-Fivestar 's darlings sometimes, usually in ridiculous Pokemon related ones. But most of my dreams that include my own characters usually involve Nicole, Darian, Calik, or Neoka. The last one I can think of at the moment was a dream about Nicole, Darian, and Calik on this weird dungeon crawl through an ancient underground city in a weird gameshow deathmatch type deal where the last team standing who collects all the artifacts and offers them up to the old civilization's goddess will get one wish or something like that. Of course it ended in some cheesy manner where the Gal ends up getting killed in the encounter with the last team just steps away from the goddess's altar and DUH Darian and Calik use the wish they get from the offering to bring her back to life. XD Sounds like some season finale of a survival competition anime or something.

please dear gods of oc stuff free me from this endless chain of exams and stress so i can answer my own questions and reply to people's things. thanks, your pal iso

Q85. Which OC of yours is the calmest in the face of danger or stress?

Definitely Nolan, no competition! He's very used to having to keep a cool face when he'd like to blow up or cry; the people he has to deal with wield a horrible amount of power over him, and if he steps over any lines or expresses too much emotion then the people he cares about will suffer for it. He's learned to focus on the future and inevitable end to his troubles, confident that there's always a way out if he keeps calm and analyzes everything. He's an expert at faking it until he makes it. Even when confronted with monstrous beings and gods he can keep a straight face and a level head; with the things he's been through, that's child's play.

happy st. patrick's day, i totally forgot that it was st. patrick's day but subconsciously remembered to wear green anyway and therefore i am free from the woes of pinching

except i'm in college where just randomly pinching a stranger would be weird, or even just talking to a stranger would be weird

Q86. Which OC of yours is the luckiest?

(unluckiest is tomorrow #spoilers so don't answer that on the side or anything!)

I have one character whose gimmick is being obscenely lucky and completely unaware of it, but I don't actually have her bio up yet so Whoops! Otherwise, uh... pretty much all of my OCs (at least the ones I have up here so far) are really unlucky.

I guess maybe Azior? His ability to avoid getting caught law enforcement involves just as much luck as it does skill, and in fact a lot of his plans rely on him getting lucky in one area or another. I also imagine he's the kind of guy who's really good at games of chance, especially if there's money on the line. People often accuse him of cheating, but he's really just that lucky!

EDIT: oh right i realize i haven't updated the pastebin list in a couple of days, that's just because pastebin logged me out and i don't know my password off-hand and i keep forgetting to log back in whenever i'm around where i keep my passwords SO i swear i'll get to that soon

Q85. Which OC of yours is the calmest in the face of danger or stress?

I think I'm gonna just include the characters that are actually calm and don't get insane, overly excited, or angry-brave when facing danger. XD

Argent is probably the coolest cucumber in the garden when it comes to stressful or dangerous situations. He only gets a little more worked up if his family is in danger, but even then he can still make quick and thoughtful decisions without panicking. He doesn't even lose his cool when he's in over his head on his own. Sort of necessary to stay composed to be a good leader in the military, I suppose. :P Katako also stays very level headed when under stress or in danger, and it never really seems to affect her mood or demeanor in any sense. She's just as thoughtful and methodical or instinctual as she always is like nothing has changed. I'd say Kiama and Damion are also both very cool headed in perilous times. Otherwise they wouldn't be very good direct servants of the god of life, huh? ^^;

Q86. Which OC of yours is the luckiest?

DANG IT, the character I'm think of isn't up yet, but Reka's mother is blessed with a luck charm that seems to keep her out of all danger. Deadly projectiles bounce right off like a magic shield, fatal falls or accidents she brushes off easily, and she tends to find general fortune wherever she goes. Reka sort of has her mother's luck as well without actually being charmed though, since she's a 7 year old that can venture off into a horribly dangerous world and luck her way out of all danger. XD

Q87. Which OC of yours is the unluckiest?

This is kind of rough, since I'd be tempted to just list all of my characters who suffer the most and are in the worst life situations... but even those characters are kind of lucky. All of Nolan's plans were born from and rely on an absurd amount of luck and coincidence, and yet he still somehow manages to get the ball rolling. 2cro is also pretty unlucky, but at the same time it's lucky that he didn't die alongside everyone else he knew, he was lucky to have the powers he had, and luck had to be a factor in his crossing of Entireties since such a thing shouldn't be possible, especially when you considered he survived the trip. So, I guess it's sort of figuring out where the line between "unfortunate" and "unlucky" is...

So, maybe Dicro? He tends to be unlucky in a comical way, getting himself injured or killed in the most wacky sitcom sorts of ways. Also like half of the time he opens a door there's a naked Ignis there even when it doesn't make any sort of logical sense. Thyx is pretty similar in that regard, being the victim of all manner of ~hilarious~ mishaps. At least they're both good sports about it!

Q87. Which OC of yours is the unluckiest?

My previously mentioned Reka's aunt, being her mom's sister, is unfortunately afflicted with the opposite of her mother's blessing, so instead of overwhelming luck she is cursed to be horrendously unlucky. Nature will work against her, the floor she's standing on will decide to become unstable and break under her feet, she can't rely on herself to be coordinated since almost every factor will never work in her favor... She just can't catch a break. The only reason she hasn't gotten herself killed yet is because she makes it a point to stay close to her sister, which tends to balance out how unlucky she is with everything. ^^; But for the ones I currently have listed, I'll say that Neoka is one unlucky fellow. If something can go wrong, it will, and if nothing could go wrong then something horribly unexpected will force its way into the situation to make sure his day does not run smoothly. He blames it on karma though and doesn't really think his bad luck is unfounded though. If he could currently die, he'd be dead so many times over, but until then, endless borderline-fatal slapstick injuries. XD

holy guacamole i slept in way too late whoops

Q88. What comes first when you create an OC?

Do you think of a name first? Personality? Design? Do you make an OC to fit a specific role you need in a story? Does your process vary?

For me it varies a lot, but it generally comes down to either 1) me making an OC based off of a cool name I heard/made or 2) me making an OC based on a design idea. The former is how most of my older OCs were created, whereas more recently when I make a new OC it falls under the latter category and name will come last.

Sometimes personality will come first, but usually personality comes attached to a design or vice versa. Someone's appearance and mannerisms can say a lot about their personality, so whenever I come up with one I usually have at least a vague idea of the latter. So I guess when I make a new OC it'll usually be either a lot of personality and a vague design idea at first or a little bit of personality and a fairly solid design at first!

TheLadyAnatola

Q88. What comes first when you create an OC?

The vast majority of my characters are from stories I have written/are writing/plan to write, so their names and personality almost always comes first while I write about them and then I design them later. At the same time, some of them were drawn first based on what role they're meant to play and their name or personality comes from what I came up with. So it's a little of either the story came first and then the design, or I drew them and then fit them in somewhere. Most of my characters are from elementary/middle school years, so a handful of them were from me looking back in my old doodle pads, finding the characters I used to draw all the time with no written story and just concepts in my head, and then I decided to expand on them and fit them in somewhere in my big world.

But of course each character has a different development process. A small handful started as names for minor characters in the stories and I later decided to expand on them. However, very rarely does design come first and then personality, since I tend to design my characters on my own and I have a personality or concept in mind while designing them. Frequently characters come to me in dreams, so they arrive with a design and personality already and I just need to name them, which can be tricky sometimes... oh the naming game. XD But I think overall with my characters development is far more important than designed, because I'm more interested in telling a story than showing off a person that happens to also have a story. Writing is definitely more important to me than visuals, so a lot of my characters honestly could get away with not having a solid design ever since it doesn't matter to me that much if other people can see them. It's just an extra treat for me if I can see them in a concrete visual form. :3

I think the only characters I have up at the moment who had absolutely no name or personality before their design are Caelus and Rusalka. I came up with them after playing around with a dressup game, and I really liked how they turned out. Took me a little while to come up with their story idea, and then their names came a lot later. The other small handful of adopts I have also fall under the design-first category since I didn't have a hand in creating them, but because of that I'm not as invested in developing them at the moment as I am with my own personal creations. Don't get me wrong, I'll work on developing them eventually. But it's not a priority since I'm not as emotionally invested. So... yeah, I'm definitely a character development over design type of person in general with a few exceptions, but that's bound to happen when you have hundreds of these dorks. XD

Q89. Do you have any specific voices imagined for your OCs?

I do! But most of the characters in question aren't up here yet, whoops! I mean, I imagine voices for all of them - sometimes really vividly, too! - but they're not always a specific voice actor or a kind of voice I could describe in detail. I could probably assign a lot of them voice actors if I dug around a little, but I'm really lazy whoops

the exception here is that i swear my friend bobzearth42 sounds exactly like dicro, it's fucked up

...man now i might go on a googling binge to find VAs for my characters bc that sounds like a lot of fun even if they don't end up totally matching my mental voice for them

Isoprene

Q90. Which OC of yours is the worst person?

I have about three OCs who I'd consider to be just the absolute worst beings in Entirety, but for better or worse none of them have profiles yet! Other than that, this is a pretty rough question. Memen immediately comes to mind given her merciless quest for revenge against Hadris, which has destroyed countless worlds and killed unimaginable numbers of people. However, it also feels weird to answer with her given her loving, caring, nurturing, and all-around perfectly decent personality toward those who haven't wronged her in any way.

Hellscream is probaby the best option out of the bunch: he's completely amoral and merciless and spends his time killing people, destroying things, and consuming souls for power just because it's all fun! In retrospect this was a pretty obvious choice huh
