Iso's OC Question of the Day

Posted 8 years, 4 months ago (Edited 6 years, 10 months ago) by Isoprene

Listen, there's nothing I love more than answering random questions about my OCs and seeing other people answer random questions about their OCs. Conveniently, I also love coming up with random questions and asking them. So, hey, why not make it a daily event? In this thread I'll post a question every day, all of them related to OCs! Sometimes it'll be about your feelings about your OCs ("who's your favorite oc?" or "who was your first oc?") and sometimes it'll be questions asked toward your OCs themselves ("what are your ocs' favorite colors?" or "would your ocs rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?"). You can answer in-character or out of character, answer for multiple characters or just one, whatever you want!

I'll try to ask these early in the day, and you're always welcome to answer any ones that you've missed! Feel free to answer as many as you want at once; just be sure to label which question you're answering! I also have a huge list of questions waiting in the wings, but if you have any questions you'd like to see asked feel free to message me and I'll credit and ping you if I end up using your question!

In affiliation with necessaryocthings, run by reinapepiada!

Q1. Who was the first OC you made a profile for on Toyhouse? Why them?

The first OC I made a profile for here was Dicro Corrune! He's the most well-known OC of mine amongst my friends (most of my friends don't have a lot of profiles up yet but he'd have the most links), is probably my most important character overall even though I have like 50 different OC universes and he's only connected to a few, and if he's not my favorite OC overall he's pretty darn close. There's a lot of me in him, too, so I feel like putting him up first provides a decent insight into both the kind of person I am and the kind of characters you'll probably see from me. Plus he has the most images, the most writing, is the most fun to RP with, and is one of my oldest active OCs... it was an obvious choice for me!

Q45. Are any of your OCs dead, planned to die, or have been dead at any point (even if only briefly)?

oh goodness yes

First and foremost, all of the Tested have died at least once. These characters were involved in something called the Competition, which was essentially a fight to the death where whoever dies last gets to become a higher being. But, no biggie! They were created by said higher beings and are pretty close to them, all things considered, so coming back to life is no big deal - not that any of them knew they'd get to come back to life until it happened but, hey, better late than never! Whenever I use them for RPing or anything, it's always after the end of the Competition, so they've all died at least once. Seraye's died twice, since to make a long story short she died before she managed to get suckered into being part of the Competition.

In story canon there are a bunch of way less serious Competitions afterward (some of which involve more dying), and in RP canon I've RPed, like, 7 other Competitions that have more gravity to them because they involve other people's characters - people who aren't pals with a bunch of gods and are very far from home. In both, the implication of the Tested's effective immortality at the hands of someone who does as she pleases with them is a strong theme.

Dicro (and by extension 2cro) gets special attention here because he dies pretty much constantly. Dicro has the ability to physically travel on the subconscious plane, which is a pretty dangerous place. It's not that big of a deal, though, because aside from the whole Tested-being-chummy-with-higher-beings thing Dicro happens to be particularly close to who is essentially Death. Even outside of the dream world it's a running gag that he dies on a regular basis, but he doesn't really mind it.

Hadris has 'died' a few times, as he often serves as the "final boss" of various different epic adventures across Entirety. Good always triumphs (unless you forgot to grind), and Hadris is a graceful loser who will usually let himself actually die. Of course, he's got an empire to run, so there's a spot in his realm that he can regenerate from under most circumstances. What kind of final boss just stays dead, y'know?

Euphesme is more of a straight example, having died before the story she's in begins. She spends the story as a ghost, haunting her sister (who was the one who killed her). Aedi was originally planned to kill herself in the middle of SYOL for Reasons (the first time I wrote the story she actually did so pretty much right after she was introduced), but the more I developed her character the less sense that made. Her death was really just something to be a Shocking Twist and make the main character doubt things, but her character was just... so much more than that and I couldn't justify her doing something so out of character given the circumstances. So, I retconned that about a year or so ago and for now she's alive the whole time! Hooray!

Finally, the story Alma and Monaz are in is a visual novel, and as such they (and just about every other character) can die if you pick the right choices. Err... wrong choices? You know what I mean.

Q45. Are any of your OCs dead, planned to die, or have been dead at any point (even if only briefly)?

This unnamed character died and was brought back to life by magic~

Spelin is a ghost who died from an attack from another cat.

Q45. Are any of your OCs dead, planned to die, or have been dead at any point (even if only briefly)?

Oh plenty. ;) But no spoilers allowed, even though it'll probably be a decade before I finish half these projects considering it's already been more than a decade since I came up with a lot of them. So I'll stick with the characters that have already been established as dead or that are known to be dead because they're from history or legend (in terms of the present day that I set most of my stories in).

Almost everyone from RMTL dies at some point, although I won't say who specifically does or does not. They live in a seemingly endless cycle where the events of their lives are altered, usually to be a worst case scenario. So in many of the cycles some of them die. Everyone that's an Eksel except for Criss has died, since the only way to become one is to die and then wake up as a devil rather than going to the afterlife. Almost all of those Eksel died from being murdered too. I'll include ghosts and people that may have been resurrected normally or as something else, but I'll exclude certain things like people "dying" and becoming a vampire or whatever. I'll also exclude people that were always a ghost or spirit and never actually lived or died.

Let's see, Trevor died when Gage was a kid so is only mentioned in past tense, Riley also died when Alec was a kid so same principle applied, Ragnarok was killed when most of his children were kids/teenagers, Alcata and Tommy were killed at the same time by Zy, and Noelle died when her triplets were kids as well. DX So many dead parents. Tommy, Kally, Anneliese, and Genevive are ghosts because they were killed. Alec has died multiple times, but since he and his sister both have certain powers, if Alec dies Kally uses the energy still charged in her spirit to bring him back to life since she's bonded to him just by the nature of her own death. Tiffany was killed and brought back to life as a demon. Kotaka, Katako, and Mivika were killed during the attack on their planet, but only the first two were reborn.

As for people in history rather than present day, Mac is known in legend for having sacrificed himself in the First War, Caelus was killed during that war, and Bonnie is from this same time period but is only assumed to be dead since she hasn't been seem in millennia. Rick is assumed to be dead, but some believe he's still in hiding after killing Adrian after the First War, which has marked him as the greatest traitor in the Eternity. Caleb and Austin are now deceased as well in present day obviously since they were only mortals, but I presume it was from more natural causes.

Q44. Do any of your OCs play an instrument or otherwise make music?

Maybe for the general well rounded thing, but in heavy practice, nah.

Q45. Are any of your OCs dead, planned to die, or have been dead at any point (even if only briefly)?

Of course!

Even though you can debate it, I consider Willa to be dead. She is basically a soul from a dead girl put inside a robot body. Mimi also died to get to his current state as a demon. But I also have some that are dead that don't have profiles yet, or they die during their storyline, which I don't think I count that really. Besides that I also have a few parents whose profiles will never be made but that are dead as well.

Q45. Are any of your OCs dead, planned to die, or have been dead at any point (even if only briefly)?

I don't usually deal in killing off my characters... Most of the permanently dead ones are not major enough to warrant a character profile. (For instance, dead family members of my main characters, regardless of how important they are to the story, usually get their info lumped in with the primary character.) I am going back and forth on whether I should kill some of my major characters off as I develop the story they're in, but since I haven't decided on those yet, I won't be mentioning those characters.

Many of my "dead" characters are undead or immortal beings. I've mentioned Serisyna several times in this thread already, but she is an undead human. She was killed trying to escape her homeland when the undead Scourge overtook it, but her light magic protected her body from being controlled by the Lich King and his necromancers who tried to resurrect her. She wandered around without consciousness, though her instincts drove her to actually try and help lost people even when she was an empty walking corpse. After the Lich King's power waned, she became a lifeless husk again, but the Forsaken eventually recovered her body, and in time she woke up as an undead with full consciousness and free will.

Llylithen's story is similar--he is a blood elf who was killed fighting the undead, and the Lich King's necromancers brought him to be resurrected as an undead death knight. Without memories or emotion, he fought for the Lich King for a time, but once the Lich King abandoned him, Llylithen regained his free will, and his memories started to come back.

Siegfried is my vampire character--he's been dead for several centuries now, killed and turned by a powerful vampire who he eventually was able to destroy and absorb his power from. I haven't finished creating character profiles for everyone else in his story-verse, but some of the other cast characters include another vampire, a vampiric/dire wolf demon, and even an angel who was a human that died but chose to return to Earth to continue fighting the darkness. A couple of the other characters are slated to die, and may or may not return as well.

Finally, I definitely know for sure that Koyasha, being a major villain in the story she's in, will eventually get killed. Though, seeing as her family is quite talented with the supernatural arts, that may not be much of a setback for her...

Q45. Are any of your OCs dead, planned to die, or have been dead at any point (even if only briefly)?

Oh yeah. Senji's been dead for a while. He just doesn't... remember how he died. Currently, he's in a kind of limbo, where a witch is putting him through various trials. He won't accept or move on from his past (hence the lack of remembering it) which means his spirit just keeps on lingering and can't go on to be reborn or anything like that. He uhhh kinda killed himself. With a knife. He has doubtlessly one of the worst backstories out of all of my characters-- him and Lial...

Not so much planned, but Iroha is planning on dying. He will, actually, if he gives his prophecy he's been wanting to give. But he doesn't mind?? Rento does, though, and stops him at every turn. Speaking of Rento, he's not so much planned to die either but he can? Like... okay, I want to make a visual novel out of him and some of his endings will end up, inevitably, with him being killed by his curse.

Gaskin is kinda between living and not-living b/c he's a monster and technically he was made up of parts from already... dead things... is he truly alive or is he dead somehow??

Q45. Are any of your OCs dead, planned to die, or have been dead at any point (even if only briefly)?

Yes, I actually have quite a few characters who are dead! Now, due to the way that the afterlife is a type of realm on its own in my story and people can be born in it instead of in the world of the living, I'm also gonna include characters who technically speaking never died but who still reside in the afterlife.

First off, there's Kraye, who was murdered when she was about 17. They never solved her murder with hard proof but blamed a friend of hers who was nearby when it happened. She currently resides in Hell but managed to escape torture and flee to the habitable zone where she still lives to this day. She's been preparing to travel back to the middle of Hell in order to escape to the overworld of the afterlife but she doesn't really mind her current predicament as she's settled down and is doing pretty well with comfort and money.

Wes is the second character that has explicitly died. Because I recently decided to overhaul Gar (the main character)'s story, I'm not yet sure how this happened, but it's most likely gonna be that Gar and Wes were on a mission together but ot into a fight where he left Wes behind in enemy territory and he never returned home from it. Due to the circumstances of his death he's stuck between life and the afterlife and he can observe life as he pleases, but because he's only a projection of his soul he cannot interact with the world or the people that inhabit it.

Thirdly, there's Tina, Chris, and their child Emily. Tina's the only one of the three who died, and she did so at the age of 11 as the result of a famine that plagued her home village. To safeguard children from ending up in Hell, Heaven has implemented a system that would automatically land the people under the age of 16 who died in Heaven and to have them adopted by one of its inhabitants. It could be useful to mention that in the afterlife, Heaven is one city among many others, it's just the most powerful and it accepts many people in for business and shelter. She had the luck to be adopted by very accepting parents who gave her freedom to move about. Chris is a heavenborn guy, as his two parents lived in Heaven when he was born. He was taken away from them as they were deemed as bad parents and given to a new pair of parents. The two met as teens and ended up marrying. Emily is their daughter.

As a fourth one on the list, Magali is a weak listing because no one found her corpse. She's been with the Guild and the Blademasters, both of which she scammed and had to flee from. While she did survive her escape from the Guild and managed to flee Kestane to go to the Demonic Mainlands and join the Blademasters, when she fled the Blademasters she underestimated the size of a jump her horse had to make and she fell to her death into a steep ravine. She's the most recent death of the bunch I listed.

Michael's a special case, as he's a heavenborn angel but he was banished to Life to carry out a penalty. So he's had a reverse death? A revival? It's complicated.

Lux
is the last one of the list. Although he technically speaking isn't dead, his body is and part of his soul is without a body, which counts for me. To explain it briefly, during a war where he protested his superiors' methods part of his soul (they thought they had all of it) was ripped out and sewed to his twin brother's soul in order to combine his good qualities with his brother's. It half worked but when the war was won they abandoned his brother. Lux kept part of his sentience but felt ignored by Nelor as he wasn't aware that he was dead and Nelor couldn't hear him, so the part that wasn't merged with his brother's that followed Nelor around started tormenting him without knowing it. Because of the entire thing happening, Nelor got himself involved in a lot of dangerous situations to find out what was wrong with him and to rid himself of this torment.

And I suppose because all of them reside in the afterlife or at least call it their home, I think it's fair to include all gods as well.

Q46. Which of your OCs' looks are the most deceiving?

Essentially, which character is the most different from the characteristics their appearance would imply? Like a massive Eldritch entity who's shy and gentle, a little girl in frilly pink dresses who's cruel and swears like a sailor, someone who's neat and formal who acts crudely, a cute mascot character who's actually the most powerful being of them all, a monstrous beast who's incredibly weak, etc.

People acting totally different than you'd assume by looks is kinda my aesthetic, so I have loads of characters like that! Though, not too many here at the moment. Hadris is a looming demonic entity who conquers worlds and has dozens of different "final boss forms", but he's actually really friendly and supportive. He's everyone's vaguely embarassing sitcom dad. Laejizhar - one of Hadris' friends - is even more monstrous-looking than Hadris, but he's calm, gentle, and focused on his family's happiness. Hattie takes care of Laejizhar's ill son, but despite her harmless and youthful looks she used to be a demonic conquerer and is still incredibly powerful.

Seraye dresses very elegantly and is soft-spoken and kind to customers, but in reality she's rough, intense, courageous, protective, and... well, that baseball bat under her desk isn't just for show. Finally, Memen is all pink and ribbons and cutesy emojis, but she's one of my most powerful characters and probably has the highest kill count among them all.

Q46. Which of yours OC's looks are the most deceiving?

I... just realised I have a LOT of these characters. Whoops. I'll talk about just a few of them.

Lial is my big one. He's sixteen, short, and very, very slender (underweight, frankly, but he wouldn't say that) and he's usually smiling but in reality he's this ultra-jaded kid who should not be as jaded as he is. It happens when you're a child prostitute and someone who'll also do random errands for money--errands that will, uh, get you tortured, lit on fire, or thrown off the docks into the ocean to your death. :x He has an extremely pessimistic and dark world view which, well, makes sense, but he does his best to act normal around people who don't know any better. Meanwhile, he'll be thinking of every negative outcome.

Noce is on the other end of the spectrum... he's really gentle, considerate, and wishes to look after others, but he is a huge venos. He's venomous, he's got insecty bits, he's super strong and could probably flatten you, but he'd do none of these things. He's a cuddler, okay, not a fighter.

Spade is the one I'll finish with... she's a beautiful gal and looks like she might be nice, but in reality she will flatten you, scrublord, she's ripped. She's hostile and combative to a lot of people, but she's also very protective of people who she befriends. She's just had a rough time of it. She's also super dry and sarcastic.

Other honourable mentions... Mero looks like a pervert but he A PURE ANGEL, An'ya seems beautiful and elegant but he's a purple prose spouting nerd, Clauste is very fluffy but he would probably try to kick your ass, Rowan's huge and intimidating but he's just an egotistical softie aaaand Seburo may look scary but he's like Noce in that he's gentle. So gentle...

Q47. Which of your OCs have the most regrets?

2cro gets this one, by far and away. He let himself get too deeply involved with someone he shouldn't have, and by the time he realized that he - and everyone else, for that matter - deserved so much better, everyone he cared about was dead and he wound up taking the whole universe down with him. He's pretty much a walking blob of regret, and the only thing that drives him now is the idea that if he can find his counterpart in this universe, he might be able to prevent a repeat of what happened to him.

Hadris comes in second, considering his hubris and carelessness from his younger days has led to countless deaths, the loss of people he cared deeply for, and an enemy he can't stop no matter how hard he tries. He covers it up well, but he's constantly haunted by his regrets and is always searching for a way he can fix things. He can't really take any more loss.

Laejizhar regrets being a terrible father who abandoned his ill son for so long just because he couldn't cope with his wife's death. Lausac regrets turning against his former friends, who were the only people who accepted and supported him, even though it wasn't something he could entirely prevent thanks to how his society worked. Finally, Monaz is weighed down by the fact that xe couldn't do anything to prevent the deaths of so many of xyr friends and then abandoned someone xe knew needed xyr support.

pretty much all of my ocs are full of regret tbh but i don't have nearly enough of them here

Q46. Which of yours OCs' looks are the most deceiving?

I'd say my darling Abel. He's basically a silent, masked, armored, winged demon, and tends to act more like a robot/gargoyle to those who can't hear him. He comes off as very intimidating since he tends to just perch or hover nearby Volkmar, completely silent and almost completely still until he needs to take action. To Volkmar though, Abel is a rather soft spoken and gentle creature that only resorts to violence to protect his master or certain people close to him. He's a bit naive about the modern world and tends to be curious and ask Volkmar a lot of questions, but he's also extremely respectful about his manner of speech. Damion fall under a similar category in the sense that he dresses and looks rather dark and can be a bit intimidating, but he's the very cheery, polite, and a bit eccentric. And by a bit, I mean a lot. I really need to draw him a better reference. Nuke is also a bit weird or intimidating looking, being a strange dark elf of sorts that can blow up living things just by making direct contact with them. But he's basically a pacifist and a gentle and passive soul. Apparently I like scary looking nice guys. XD

Q47. Which of your OCs have the most regrets?

Probably Neoka, considering he was mind controlled into fighting on the wrong side of a huge war and did a bunch of horrible things. He's spending the rest of his life putting up with all the crap in the world trying to make up for it, and he doesn't really do anything about his own suffering now because he thinks it's what he deserves. Alec didn't go to war or anything, but he regrets being stupid and ending up in juvi for years, and he also regrets contributing to his old sister's death in the past. It was an accident, but he won't let himself live it down. He also feels bad for living when his dad died shielding him from bullets during a drive-by shooting, and although he's an unreasonable regret to have since he couldn't have done anything about it, that doesn't keep him from feeling like he did something wrong.

I have a buttload of other regretful angst buckets, but I'm so not putting them all down because that's basically half of them. XD
