Pokémon Ultra: Spark yellow

Hey there! I think it’s been, like… Over a month or so since I returned home from the Sevii Islands? It’s probably been a lot longer than that, but I don’t know how long exactly. I haven’t really been keeping track of the days…

Anyways, This past month or so I’ve been doing, like… A LOT of training and capturing… But mostly capturing. I’ve been flying around the Kanto region, catching any Pokémon that I don’t have, to help complete the Kanto Pokédex. I’ve then been training those Pokémon, and the other Pokémon that I have, evolving them to complete even more pages in the Pokédex. It’s been a lot of work training and capturing all these Pokémon, but after all the work… I’ve captured almost every single Pokémon in the Kanto region. I would say normally that I’ve caught every single Pokémon, but I only have 149 pages filled out… And there’s supposed to be 150 total Pokémon in Kanto. I’m not entirely sure who the last Pokémon is supposed to be, so today I was going over to Professor Oak’s lab, to see if he would know anything about it. Once I went over to Oak’s lab and asked him about it, well… It turned out he did know who it was.

“Ah, yes, number 150… That’s a Pokémon known as Mewtwo!” Professor Oak says. “Mewtwo…? Whoa. So is Mewtwo like, a legendary Pokémon…?” I asked.

“Indeed! Mewtwo is a Pokémon made by scientists, being made with the DNA of the ancient Pokémon, Mew…”

BANG!! Suddenly the doors to the lab burst open, Blue walking towards us with a bit of an annoyed expression. “Yo, gramps! I wanna know about Mewtwo too…” Blue says, crossing his arms. “Sam’s not the only one who’s caught all the Kanto Pokémon… If anyone’s gonna capture Mewtwo, it’s gonna be me!”

“Blue, relax…” Professor Oak says. “And besides, I just told you all everything I know… Sadly, there’s not much public information about Mewtwo out there… But I’m sure if you two ask around, you can find some information out there about where Mewtwo lives!”

“Yeah… I think I can do that! Thanks, Professor Oak… Hey Blue, you wanna go out and look for Mewtwo together?”

“What? Nah, I’m getting Mewtwo by myself.” Blue says, standing up as he looked down at me with a smirk. “And after I catch Mewtwo, we need to have a rematch together, alright? I’ve been training a lot, and I’m totally gonna kick your butt this time around!”

“Yeah, alright…” I nodded in agreement. “You’re on!”

Sometime later…

I honestly had no idea where to start looking for clues first… Was there anywhere in Kanto that I hadn’t visited yet? I wasn’t entirely sure… I tried to think about it for a bit, hopping onto Blastoise’s back and swimming around in the ocean around Cinnabar Island… Eventually I decided to take a break at the island, resting next to Blastoise in the water… But when I was resting, I saw the Cinnabar Mansion next to me… Which I haven’t been inside of at all. I do remember now though that this mansion has some history behind it… Maybe there’s a chance it might have to do with Mewtwo? It doesn’t hurt to look…

“Hmm…” While I was resting, I was searching around in my pockets, pulling out one of those swirly stones that I found back in the Sevii Islands. I held the stone up against the sunlight, Blastoise lifting his head out of the water slightly, cocking his head curiously at the stone. “Hm? You like this stone, Blastoise?” I asked, Blastoise nodding slightly as he gently touched it. Upon looking at both Blastoise and the stone, I then realized that the stone actually had the same colors as Blastoise. Is this stone… Related to Blastoise somehow? Hmm…

“Hey Blastoise, you wanna hang onto this stone for a bit? Uh, let’s see…” I reached into my backpack, pulling out some string. I wrapped the string around the stone, making a makeshift necklace as I put it on Blastoise. “There! That looks good!”

Blastoise looked down at the stone, smiling at me.

“I’m glad you like it! Alright, you can return now…” I say, putting Blastoise back in his ball, as I looked over at the mansion. “Alright… Let’s find some clues.”

Sometime later…

Going inside of the mansion, I could quickly tell that this mansion had been abandoned for a while, since besides a bunch of wild Pokémon living there, the mansion was pretty much empty. The mansion was pretty dirty and had some furniture either scattered around in a frantic looking mess, or other rooms that had no furniture at all. There was also a bunch of these statues in different parts of the mansion, which looked like a Pokémon that I’d never seen before… Maybe the statues were supposed to resemble Mewtwo? Hopefully I’ll find out soon.

Anyways, the statues kind’ve creeped me out to be honest… They each had a button on them that would make their eyes glow red, or turn off, and I was quickly able to find out that the buttons would also close and open these automated doors in certain areas… Once I figured out that pattern, I was eventually able to make my way into the basement of the area… The basement had some books and journals in it, which had a lot of information inside of them.

“Let’s see… July 5th, South America… A new Pokémon was discovered deep in the jungle…”

A new Pokémon? Ooh, does this have to do with Mewtwo? Professor Oak did say that Mewtwo was a clone of another Pokémon… Man, I wish I knew how long ago this journal was made… Hm, I gotta continue reading this…

“We have decided to name this new Pokémon Mew. After collecting the DNA of the mythical Pokémon Mew, we have successfully created a Pokémon that is named Mewtwo.”

Oh my gosh, yes! Finally finding something here… Hmm… I flipped over to the next page…

“Mewtwo has grown increasingly unstable. We have failed to curb its vivious tendencies… Mewtwo has broken free from the laboratory…”

Whoa, Mewtwo sounds seriously powerful… Wait a minute, it broke free from the lab? Where is the lab exactly? Was the lab supposed to be in this mansion originally? I feel like it should be, but I haven’t seen any evidence of a lab existing in this mansion, and I feel like I’ve looked everywhere… Might as well continue reading, but… There’s only one more page left.

“After our research team spent time looking around the region, we have discovered that Mewtwo is now hiding out deep in Cerulean Cave. Kanto authorities have hired a guard to watch the entrance of the cave, to avoid any accidents to humankind.”

Oh my gosh… YES! I know where to find Mewtwo now! I’ve never been to Cerulean Cave before, but I don’t need an expert to know where that place is… Now it’s time to go find Mewtwo!

Sometime later…

I flew over to Cerulean City, quickly finding the cave right outside of the city… Of course there was a guard outside the cave too, but they did let me in after I explained everything to them… The cave was pretty huge, and I had to search through the cave for a while, slowly getting deeper and deeper into the cave. In the last room of the cave, there was a small lake, with a small island at the far back of it. I hopped onto Blastoise’s back, getting closer to the island, and…

…There it was… Mewtwo. It looked exactly like the Pokémon that statues resembled, so I know it was Mewtwo. I quickly arrived at the island, Mewtwo immediately growling and glaring at me, unleashing a Swift attack on me as I quickly dodged it. “Whoa! Ok, this isn’t gonna be easy…”

Sam: “Alright Pikachu, you’ve got this! Use Thunderbolt!”

Pikachu attacked, doing a decent amount of damage, as Mewtwo used Safeguard.

Sam: “Now use Thunder!!”

Pikachu’s attack did a ton of damage… But Mewtwo quickly used Recover, almost fully healing back up now. Mewtwo then used Psychic, slamming Pikachu against the ground and doing a lot of damage. Oh man… Mewtwo really is strong…

Sam: “Hang in there, Pikachu! Use Thunder again!”

This time Mewtwo dodged the attack, using Swift to then knock out Pikachu.

Sam: “Oh no, Pikachu… Ok, You’ve got this, Wigglytuff! Use Tri Attack!”

Maybe I can try to use this attack to either freeze or paralyze Mewtwo? I don’t know… Once Wigglytuff attacked, Mewtwo then attacked back with Psychic, doing a lot of damage. Maybe I need to think stronger…

Sam: “Time for a taste of your own medicine… Wigglytuff, you use Psychic as well!”

Wigglytuff attacked, Mewtwo using Psychic back… However, Mewtwo’s attack did more damage, knocking out Wigglytuff.

Sam: “Ok… Let’s go, Nidoking! Use Earthquake!!”

Nidoking’s attack did a lot of damage, but Mewtwo used Recover, healing itself once more. Ugh, come on… Mewtwo then used Psychic, the supereffective attack knocking him out in one hit. Man, Mewtwo is ridiculously powerful… How the heck am I supposed to beat Mewtwo if it keeps healing itself?! I’m gonna need some more powerful attacks if I’m gonna have a chance at beating and capturing Mewtwo..l

Sam: “Let’s go, Charizard! Use Blast Burn!!”

Charizard blasted out his attack, doing a ton of damage. Hmm, maybe now I should try throwing a ball… I gotta hurry, before Mewtwo heals itself again… I quickly chucked an ultra ball at Mewtwo…

…1 shake…

…2 shakes…

…POP!! But sadly, the ball popped open. Mewtwo then used Recover, healing itself up again. Oh, come on…

Sam: “Use Fire Blast, Charizard!”

Charizard did a good amount of damage, Mewtwo then using Psychic. 

Sam: “Now use Dig!”

While Charizard was underground, Mewtwo took the chance to use Recover again. After Charizard dug back up and attacked, Mewtwo then used Swift, Charizard getting weaker…

Sam: “Argh… Hang in there, Charizard… Use Fire Blast!!”

Charizard blasted out one last powerful attack, before Mewtwo used Swift again, knocking out Charizard. Man, this isn’t good… I only have two Pokémon left, and one of them is weak against Psychic types…

Sam: “Ok… Come on out, Venusaur! Use Frenzy Plant!!”

Venusaur attacked, doing a good amount of damage… However, Venusaur now couldn’t attack again after using it… Mewtwo took this opportunity to use Recover again… And before Venusaur could attack again, Mewtwo used Psychic again… Knocling out Venusaur. Oh no… Mewtwo is so strong, I just…

I looked down at Blastoise’s Poke ball, my hands shaking a bit. No… I can’t give up. I need to stay strong, until the very end… I need to believe in Blastoise.

Sam: “…You can do this, Blastoise! Use Blizzard!!”

Blastoise’s attack did a bunch of damage, Mewtwo attacking back with Swift.

Sam: “Now use Surf!”

Once again Blastoise attacked, Mewtwo retaliating with Psychic.

Sam: “Now use Hydro Cannon!!”

Blastoise’s attack did a ton of damage… I quickly chucked another ultra ball…

…1 shake…

…2 shakes…

…3 shakes…

…POP!! But once again, the Pokémon popped open. Dangit, it was so close too… Mewtwo took this chance to use Recover again, then used Psychic. The Psychic was a critical hit, roughly slamming Blastoise to the ground, who was struggling trying to stand back up.

Sam: “Blastoise, get up! You can do this!! Come on buddy, I’ve seen how strong you’ve gotten since I’ve met you… I know you can defeat Mewtwo! I believe in you!!”

Soon I could suddenly see a bright light coming from the stone around Blastoise’s neck… The other stone that was in my pocket also started to shine brightly as well. Blastoise slowly stood up, his body glowing with a bunch of colors, a big ball of light engulfing his body… And suddenly the ball of light exploded into a flash of colors as it disappeared…

…And revealed Blastoise, who was now in a different form. What the… Did Blastoise just… Evolve even further? How was this possible?! Whoa… He really did look awesome, though. And even more powerful…

Sam: “Whoa… Ok Blastoise, time to put this new strength to the test… Blastoise, use Surf!!”

Blastoise’s attack did a lot more damage than usual. Mewtwo then used Swift.

Sam: “Now use Ice Beam!!”

Blastoise’s attack did even more damage to Mewtwo, knocking it to the ground as it weakly stood back up, then using Psychic.

Sam: “Now one last attack… BLASTOISE, USE HYDRO CANNON!!”

Blastoise blasted out the most powerful attack I’d ever seen him do, creating a big explosion of water… When the smoke from the explosion cleared, Mewtwo had collapsed on the ground, struggling to stand back up. Ok, nows my chance… I threw another ultra ball…

…2 shakes…

…3 shakes…

…Click!

…I did it. I can’t believe it… I… I ACTUALLY CAUGHT MEWTWO!! WOO!!

“Blastoise… You did amazing!! Come here!!” I quickly ran up to Blastoise, Blastoise also running up to me as I hugged him, patting Blastoise on the head. “Blastoise, you really are the best… Thank you so much.”

Blastoise nodded and smiled at me, his body lighting up and changing… As he reverted back to his normal form.

“Whoa… So I guess this form is only temporary?” I pulled out the stone from my pocket, looking at the other one around Blastoise’s neck. “These stones… They must have some special power in them… But hey, you know what? You’re still the best Blastoise ever… New form or not.”

Sometime later…

I left the cave, healing up all my Pokémon in the Pokémon center, before flying back to Pallet Town. Immediately upon arriving in town, I quickly made my way over to Professor Oak’s lab, dropping off Mewtwo and explaining everything that happened to Professor Oak and Blue, who was also at the lab as well.

“Sam, I can’t believe you actually caught Mewtwo…” Professor Oak says, with an excited expression. “…This is absolutely amazing!”

“Yeah yeah, it’s not that big of a deal…” Blue says, getting out of his chair, almost having an annoyed expression as he smirked at me. “But don’t forget our deal! We need to battle now!”

“Yeah um, about that… Could we have the battle tomorrow?” I asked. “I’m feeling pretty tired after all that happened today.”

“Alright, fine. First thing tomorrow morning…” Blue says. “…I’ll be kicking your butt.”

The next day…

After spending the rest of yesterday resting, I met Blue first thing this morning, at the Route right outside of Pallet Town… Where it was now time to battle.

BATTLE… BEGIN!!

Blue: “Let’s go, Heracross!”

Whoa… Did Blue catch this Heracross in the Sevii Islands? Man, I wish I could have caught one there too…

Sam: “Ok… Let’s go, Blastoise! Use Ice Beam!”

Blue: “Dodge it, then use Swords Dance!”

Sam: “Use Surf!”

Blue: “Use Brick Break!”

I think Swords Dance must have upped Heracross’ attack stat, cause Brick Break did a LOT of damage. Hmm…

Sam: “Alright Blastoise, use Blizzard!!”

Blue: “Now, use Megahorn!!”

Both Pokémon attacked each other at once… Both knocking each other out at the same time.

Blue: “Urgh, alright… Let’s go, Gyarados!”

Sam: “Alright, it’s your turn now, Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt!”

Blue: “Use Hydro Pump!!”

Both attacks did a lot of damage to one another.

Sam: “Hang in there, Pikachu… Use Thunder!!”

Before Gyarados could attack again… Thunder quickly knocked it out.

Blue: “…Let’s go, Tyranitar!! Use Earthquake!!”

Tyranitar’s Earthquake did a ton of damage… Knocking out Pikachu. Oh man… This Tyranitar was cool, but it was scary powerful too…

Sam: “Ok… Let’s go, Venusaur! Use Frenzy Plant!!”

Blue: “Use Earthquake!!”

Both attacks did a lot of damage to one another, Venusaur’s attack doing a bit more damage. 

Blue: “Use Sandstorm! Then use Rock Slide!”

Sam: “Quickly, dodge it! Then use Mega Drain!”

Tyranitar activated a Sanstorm in the area, but luckily Venusaur dodged the Rock Slide attack… Knocking out Tyranitar.

Blue: “Urgh… Let’s go, Arcainine! Use Extremespeed!!”

Before Venusaur could do anything else… He was knocked out.

Sam: “Alright, let’s go Nidoking! Use Earthquake!!”

Blue: “Use Extremespeed!”

Both attacks did a lot of damage to one another, but Nidoking’s did way more, Arcainine already close to fainting… And the sandstorm then damaged Arcainine a bit… Knocking it out.

Blue: “…Let’s go, Alakazam! Use Psychic!!“

Alakazam quickly attacked… Knocking out Nidoking.

Sam: “Let’s go, Wigglytuff! Use Mega Punch!”

Blue: “Use Future Sight!”

Sam: “Again, Mega Punch!”

Blue: “Now use Psychic!”

Both attacks did a good amount of damage, Alakazam close to fainting…

Sam: “Now use Tri Attack!”

Blue: “Use Psychic!”

Both attacks did a lot of damage, but Wigglytuff’s did more… Knocking out Alakazam.

Blue: “…Let’s go, Umbreon! Use Dark Pulse!!“

Sam: “Use Mega Punch!”

Blue: “Dodge it! Then use Faint Attack!!”

Umbreon smoothly dodged Wigglytuff’s attack, then attacked, doing a lot of damage. The Future Sight then kicked in as well… Knocking out Wigglytuff.

Sam: “Ok… It’s up to you now, Charizard! Use Fire Blast!!”

Blue: “USE HYPER BEAM!!”

Umbreon’s Hyper Beam did a lot of damage, but Umbreon couldn’t move now after using it. Now’s my chance…

Sam: “Use Fire Blast! Then Use BLAST BURN!!”

With Charizard’s quick attacking… He then knocked out Umbreon.

“WOO! Yeah, great job, Charizard!” I patted Charizard on the head, returning him back to his ball, as I looked over at Blue, his gaze fixated on the ground. “…Great.” He muttered under his breath.

“Hm?”

“Great! Another thing you’re better at!!” Blue snapped, looking back up as he glared at me with a seriously hurt expression. “Huh? Wh-what are you talking about, Blue?“ I asked.

“What do you think I’m talking about?!” Blue snapped. “Not only did you catch Mewtwo before I could, but you also beat me again! After all my training, after training my new teammates… You still beat me!! I…” Blue paused, as tears started forming in his eyes.

“No matter what I do, you’re still and will always be the better version of me! Even my own grandpa is more interested in you than me… You know people have been making fun of me after finding out how fast you defeated me after I became champion?!”

“Wh-what? I didn’t know about that, I-“

“You have everything that I’ve wanted in life!!” Blue snapped back at me, cutting me off as tears were now streaming down his face. “You took everything away from me Sam, I… I really hate you, you know that?”

“Blue… Wait!” Blue suddenly ran away from me, before I could say anything else to him.

Oh no… I feel horrible… Have I really been making Blue feel this way this whole time? I… I never wanted this to happen.

A week later…

I’ve been… Thinking about a lot of different things since my fight with Blue… What Blue said to me after the fight made me realize some things about my life, and this week I… I made a really important decision. I wanted to go talk to Blue one last time for a while, and I ended up finding him at the lab, where he was doing some work.

“Uh, hey Blue…” I walked up and greeted him, Blue sighing as he looked away from me.

“Hey, Sam… What do you want? My grandpa isn’t here right now…” He mutters in response.

“Yeah, I know… I talked to him earlier… I was actually looking for you.” I say, Blue looking back over to me as he raised an eyebrow at me in confusion. “I just… I wanted to thank you for our battle last week, and I… Look, I’m really sorry for the way I’ve made you feel this whole time. I had no idea I was hurting you like that. And, you know, I’ve already told my mom, Professor Oak, and Leaf about something important, and I owe it to tell you as well. After our battle last week, I’ve been thinking about a lot of different things, and recently, I… I gave up my champion title. And I’m leaving to go on another journey first thing tomorrow morning.”

“Wait… You WHAT?!“ Blue suddenly jumped out of his chair, a shocked expression on his face. “Are you serious?! Why would you do that?!” Blue snaps.

“It’s just that our battle made me question and realize a lot of things in my life…” I state. “I achieved pretty much everything I wanted in life… Except for one thing.”

“Which is…?”

“Being your friend.”

“Wh…What?!” Blue looked at me with a completely perplexed expression. “Ew, you’d seriously rather be my friend than be the freaking champion? Are you nuts?! I know I wanted to become champion myself, but not because you gave up your title! You know how lame that is?!”

“Blue, accomplishing my dream ended up hurting you!” I snapped back. “I never wanted this to happen, and I just… I need to think more about my life… And what’s gonna happen next in my future. That’s why I’m going on this journey alone… I guess it’s sort’ve like… A journey of self-discovery?”

“…Urgh… Ok, I, um…” Blue sighed. “…I honestly don’t really get it, but you do you I guess… Do you, know when you’re gonna come back, at least?” He asked.

“No, I don’t…” I sighed. “But you think, when I get back… Maybe we could really be friends?” I ask, holding a hand out.

“Uhh…” Blue looked down at my hand, thinking for a bit. “…Maybe? I don’t know, I guess we’ll wait and see.” He answers, shaking my hand, as I quickly pulled him in for a hug. “Sounds good to me. Thank you, Blue.”

“…Uh, yeah. You’re… Welcome?” Blue hugged me back for a moment, before quickly letting go, a slight smirk on his face. “Man, what’s with the sappiness all of a sudden?” He says, and I couldn’t help but laugh a bit.

“Heh, sorry about that…” I say, smiling at him. “I’m just glad I got to be your rival, Blue.”

“Uh, yeah… Me too.”

Don’t get me wrong, I was honestly really happy with how my journey turned out… I met some great friends, found the most incredible team of Pokémon I could have asked for… And achieved my life long goal of becoming champion. However… I’m only eleven years old… I still have so much of my future to look forward to, so much growing up to do… There’s more to life than becoming champion… More to ME than becoming champion… And I’m gonna find that version of me… The real version of me. That was truly one of the reasons I gave up my champion title. And… I don’t know where the true version of me is hidden, but no matter where it is…

…I’m gonna find it.
