Waging Wars

While battling doesn't happen very often concerning the pride of Wikimak, it is a way of life, and battle traditions have been just about the same since the beginning of the pride's history.

One of the most notable of traditions is the fact that all the pride members drop their normal ranks and become batinto. In times of war, almost every rank, besides select ranks, drop, and any able bodied lion becomes a weapon used to keep the pride safe. But, of course, there has to be more than just that, especially in times of war. That brings us to their second tradition.

Which would be war paint. Despite being called war paint, the pride of Wikimak tends to use such paint for, both, war and for visitation purposes, such as if another pride's ambassador were to visit the Wikimak pride, or vise versa. But it is also used in times of war, and signifies that these lions are not currently friendly. They usually get the paint from the native man in exchange for various trinkets and meats. Otherwise, if they find themselves low, they usually use either blood, or make it themselves with mixtures of flowers and/or clay and water. Paint is often spread about the face area, sometimes scattered within the mane, as well as the ears and nose. Shoulders, thighs, tailtips, and paws can also be painted. Any sort of color can be used, but most often it's just reds, whites, and grayish browns.

Finally, the third tradition would be prayer. The members of the Wikimak pride tend to pray to Wicasa very often, and they will do so before war begins. They will all gather together within the center of their territory and be lead into prayer by the leading hataniki. After the hataniki is finished speaking, all others are allowed to add any input they wish to convey to Wicasa. After which, they all end the prayer with a mighty roar.
