The Inhabitants of Wikimak Forest

The forest has always been a rather luscious place concerning wildlife, and the forest of the Wikimak pride is no exception. With their convenient location between differing biomes, there is quite a plethora of different species and creatures that cross the forest or find themselves staying.

There are plenty of creatures that live among the forest that the pride considers prey. All species of squirrel (Black, grey, red, and the California ground squirrel), along with hares and rabbits, salamanders, black-tailed deer, and elk are all considered good sources of food. Salamanders in particular, however, are only for those who have a hard time finding something to eat, a last resort food, so to speak. The lions of Wikimak will tell you that the salamanders don't tend to taste too good, but they're edible. The best sort of prey would be the elk. Their meat is almost always tender and juicy, and it always tastes good. There's also a lot, since it's a large animal. It can be hard to take one down, though. Multiple kwahu are needed in order to get one down.

Other prey that tends to cross is also good eats. At times, mountain goats migrate from the mountains to the forests below. Sometimes the horses and wild sheep tend to wander into the forest from the plains. Even gophers and prairie dogs tend to find themselves in the forest sometimes, though rare. All these are great forms of food.

However, there are plenty of predators and threats as there are prey. Examples of Wikimak threats would be humans, depending on their intent, bears, badgers and wolves. Though wolves are smaller, they tend to wander in packs, making it difficult to take them down alone. Bears are large creatures and tend to be rather docile, except when cubs are around. Badgers are also small, but they are vicious little devils and are bull-headed and stubborn, making them difficult opponents. Humans can be a threat as well, if their intentions are to go after the lions themselves. The natives of the plains are known by the pride and so disregarded, but humans such as the ones with shiny pelts on horses, are regarded as threats... although no one has seen them since the initial encounter.
