Making Merry


There are all sorts of fun celebrations and holidays that the pride of Wikimak celebrates. They celebrate certain times of the year, as well as host parties and celebrations of adolescents coming of age or after winning a war. 


Pride members have the freedom to decorate their dens for various occasions, although it is not really required by any sort of law or regulation. The only time when it is required to decorate various places within the pride is when they celebrate Ocowana, a adolescent coming of age. Pride members have creative freedom, allowing them to put up anything they desire so long as it's appropriate for the occasion and doesn't look like anything that could possibly bring cursing upon the pride. 


They celebrate plenty of various holidays within the pride. Here is a list, along with the specific date:

  • January 1st - Machk = "New Beginnings" First day of a new year
  • March 26th - Asdza = "The Falling of Rain" First day of spring/rainy season
  • April 9th - Lokni = "Praise the Great One" Thanksgiving and celebration of Wicasa - Celebration lasts an entire week
  • May 14th - Migina = "Love of the Mother and Father" Parents day/ To celebrate the parents
  • May 25th - Wanikiy = "The Warmth of the Sun" First day of summer
  • June 3rd - Niabi = "Love of the Elders" Appreciation day of the older lions/elders/grandparents - two day celebration
  • July 18th - Nosh = "The Day of Doom" The day the silverpelts came - solemn holiday/a day of remembrance (no celebrating/dancing/decorating/etc)
  • August 12th - Shiye = "Love for the Native Man" Celebration for the alliance of the native man and his pride - celebration lasts for five days. All lions migrate and stay with the native man for the duration of the celebration. 
  • September 2nd - Kanti = "We Long For You" Remembrance of those who have become one with the earth. All lions migrate to a nearby cave and paint claw prints upon the cave walls while remembering and telling stories of those who have passed. 
  • September 17th - Tse = "The Way Nature Fades" First day of fall/autumn
  • October 31st - Framunti = "The Day of Disguise" Halloween-esque time of year. Everyone just dresses up/celebrates/hang out with the native man/other allies
  • November 23rd - Lokni = "Praise to the Great One" Thanksgiving and celebration to Wicasa - Celebration lasts an entire week
  • November 30th - Anpaytoo = "The Cold Moves In" First day of winter
  • December 25th - Waminta = "The Love of the Great Lion" Christmas-esque holiday/Celebration of Wicasa and giving gifts to others/spending time with family and such - lasts three days. One day out of three, they go to the native man/other allies and give thanks and gifts.
