Mothers and fathers are obligated to teach a cub in the way they should go and are to be their mentors until they become more mature, specifically around adolescent-hood. It is only then that the cubs then chose a rank, and a rank they chose, they are put into to train. Makisa are mainly in charge of teaching them the ropes, then, but other members within the rank are more than willing and able to help as well, and they usually tend to do so. Once the adolescent learns all that they need to know and becomes and adult, they officially "graduate" from informal training and continue on within their chosen rank, lest they decide to change their mind. Adult lions going into a rank usually train for about a month or so. By then, they are usually well versed in the arts of their chosen rank.
