Shimo's relationship with his parents was pretty good when he was still a member of his old pride. They were very proud of him, because he was a good hunter. However, now he doesn't talk to them, or any members of his old pride. He has been shunned, and is no longer allowed to have any sort of communication with them. He doesn't mind that for most of them, a lot of those lions were jerks to him. But he does miss his parents. They were the only lions in that pride that actually liked him, and were the only ones who were sad to see their son be cast out. His mother, Mzuri, was very kind to everyone, and comforted him after a difficult day. His father, Mlinzi, defended him when he was really young and was being harassed on a daily basis. Now, Mzuri hardly remembers anything, and Mlinzi was killed in battle soon after Shimo left. Mzuri has a type of mental illness that makes her unable to remember anything, and with her mate dead, she has an anxiety disorder too. Shimo often finds himself daydreaming about what might have happened if he didn't challenge the leader, or if he had won. Would the other lions still be as mean? Would his parents still be around to help him? He has no idea what is going on with his old pride, but he doesn't really want to. He is much happier where he is now. And he hopes to one day create the pride he wished he lived in when he was a cub. He doesn't want the new cubs to be in the same position he was in all those years ago. Mlinzi is looking down on his family from the afterlife, and is very proud of what his son has become, and he wishes that he could have more to protect him. He is also very concerned about Mzuri, and wishes that she joins him soon, if only to ease her pain.
