Is there something you want to tell me, son?

Kai paced around the camp nervously. He was waiting for his parents to return from gathering herbs. Kosa looked at him reassuringly, before wrapping her tail around his. Kai nodded thankfully, before returning to his pacing. It was as though there was a war going on inside his head, and he can't remember ever feeling this anxious about something before.

Kosa watched her brother worriedly. He wouldn't tell her what was on his mind, but she knew it couldn't be anything good. She had never seen him like this before, he was starting to remind her of Amoka, with how much he was worrying over this. Kai was usually so carefree, and it ate at her to know that he doesn't feel comfortable sharing something that's so obviously taking a toll on him with her. After all, they were siblings. Nothing would ever separate them, right?

Oh, how wrong she was.

When Bahari and Amoka returned, they were quite perplexed to see Kai acting this way. The fact that Kosa seemed equally as confused worried them slightly. The two of them shared everything with each other, what was going on?

Kai looked at the camp entrance when his parents returned. His ears and tail shot up, but he quickly flattened them. He had spent days worrying about this, and he figured that it was time to tell them.

"Is there something you want to tell us, son?" Kai jumped, before steeling himself as he realized it was Bahari who was speaking.

"Umm, yeah. Kosa?" He called, getting her attention. She bounded over to the rest of her family, eager to know what was going on. "There's no easy way to say this, but," He began, looking at their worried faces guiltily, "I've... I've decided that I'm going to leave the pride for a bit," He said, closing his eyes.

"What?!" Kosa cried incredulously, "Kai what are you talking about? How can you do this?" She exclaimed, frantic. He opened his eyes, and immediately regretted it. He was met with the sight of his sister sobbing, her eyes begging him to stay.

"I'm sorry, Kosa," He said, looking around nervously. The other lions were starting to come out of their dens, curious to see what was going on. "I-I just feel like there's something more out there. I have to go," He said, pleading with her. He glanced at his parents, hoping to find some help. Bahari, much like Kosa, was shell-shocked, and crying. Amoka, on the other hand, looked... scared? Kai couldn't place a name to it, but it sure wasn't a good emotion. He couldn't bring himself to look at them any longer, and he ran out of the camp, ignoring the cries of his sister and former pridemates.

I can't ever go back. He thought. Not after this.
