✴️Personality✴️

Tries to keep an emotional distance from living people and does an okay job at it. Has a few that he is fond of, but wouldn't be too upset if they died. Anything that isn't divine or directly serving under the divine is extremely short lived, and as something serving under the divine Aternus has developed a very foreign view on death. He once was human, but is far removed from it now. 

Aternus no longer spends time thinking about why he was picked to be a psychopomp or his place in the universe. He has observed that all the other psychopomps he has come across were clever individuals who lead rather morally grey lives, much like him, but there isn't much commonality past that. Aternus at present thinks that is it a waste of time to worry about why Death picked him or anyone for that matter. To him, what matters now is doing his job well.

🌕Backstory🌕

One of the oldest psychopomps. His actual duties as a psychopomp take up very little time since he normally just handles emergencies at this point. 

Was a horse thief during life. Died because he slipped out of the saddle, went under the horse, and had his ribs crushed. Very much at peace with the fact his old life is over. Occasionally misses someone or something from it, but it's more of a vague pang than pining. 

Has a ton of free time. Spent the last 230ish years pretending to be a vampire so he can teach. He just enjoys learning languages and teaching gives him excuse to learn more. Got the job at the university because the person who was supposed to teach the foreign language courses quit last minute. One of the other professors went "oh I know a guy" and got Aternus hired. Being a professor is basically just a time-consuming hobby for him. 

Claims to be several hundred years old, 230ish years is just when there started being documented evidence of him being around. It's not unusual for older vampires to not have written proof of their actual age.

Never had any formal schooling. Has a honorary degree in linguistics from the university he works at. All of his schooling has either been informal, with him asking someone to teach him a specific thing, or Aternus teaching himself.

Typically harder to pass classes. Debatably makes up for it by actually promptly answering messages from students.

Has a worn-looking, leather-bound book that he can write in to ask Death questions. Death writes the answer back. Death also uses it to communicate what it wants Grim to do. 

Has lived in the same house since he started teaching. Only updates it when he feels like he has to. 

Has not learned how to drive and at this point is refusing to. 

Occasionally gets an exotic animal to raise out of boredom. Has sworn off keeping larger ones after getting lightly mauled by a big cat. Prefers foxes overall. Foxes might get into things and try to pee in your house, but they certainly cannot fit your head inside their mouth.

Took the last name Grimm as a joke to himself

Has come to dislike most foods as nothing really tastes good anymore. He frankly doesn't care about this development especially since he doesn't need to eat. Only really eats during social situations if pressed. 

Doesn't need to breathe, but still does out of habit. 

He is the person that wound up getting rid of Nikolai.
