Meet the Lambda Clan

The Lambda Clan is the islander clan. The Lambdas are carefree and live in a bright, beautiful environment. Located on the Northern section of the Karpos Island, the clan is long and thin, with over 50% of their landmass being tropical beach land. The air is warm and mild and the breezes pass through tall strong palm trees throughout the entire clan. Floss in Lambda enjoy a perpetual summer.  They love to throw large feasts and  parties by the water and are always ready to sit back and relax in a hammock. Unlike most clans the Lambda are strong believers in relaxation and happiness over the notion of hard work and success. You will often hear the Lambdafloss say "Alualu i kou hauʻoli" to one another, this is a common greeting or send off in their culture that means "Pursue your Happiness". They believe that the most important thing in life is true happiness, not monetary success. That isn't to say that Lambda are lazy, in fact one of the best ways to find your true bliss is to put in the effort in your work or ambitions. Another value of the Lambda is self esteem. One Lambda saying goes, "Aloha i nā mea āpau āu e ʻike ai, me ʻoe iho." and means to "Love all you see, including yourself". The Lambda believe strongly in positive self talk and are very against to those who talk down on themselves or others. They will try at any opportunity to make someone feel better about themselves. Naturally the sparkling beaches of Lambda are a popular vacation spot for all Candyfloss. With their empathic abilities, Lambdas can easily lull visitors into a state of relaxation and run the top resorts and spas in the world. Days in Lambda pass by like a dream, feeling the sand between your toes, picking the ripe juicy fruits and laying in the sunshine till the end of your days.

culture

The Lambda are a clan that seeks to leave the world better than they found it at every opportunity, and encourage everyone to take it easy, and feel the rhythm of the waves.

The Lambda are a people who have strong ties to their heritage and beliefs. They strive to preserve their way of life even in the busy stressful world. Along with traditional dances, meals, and clothing, the Lambda have preserved their native language and speak it as a secondary language in their clan. (It sounds similar to Earth's Hawaiian language)

The foods in Lambda focus on the rich gummies and taffies that can be harvested from the wildlife in the coral reefs that surround the island, and the rich sweet fruits that grow naturally all around the clan. They are well known for using the husks of their fruits as serving dishes, and their rare gummy fish are renown all across Caramella. The raw sugar that makes up the shoreline in Lambda is harvested carefully by sugar farmers and cultivated to be the sweetest, most delectable raw sugar in the land, used exclusively in the top quality goods that are created in the Candy factories in Kappa.

Kuʻialua, or Lua is a form of Martial arts that ancient Lambdafloss developed that focuses on joint locks and pressure point manipulation, that has found it's way in many of the tribal dances and celebrations still preformed in Lambda. Having a passive ability the Lambda of old had to defend themselves against the wildlife and enemies before the clans were united. Though this art is not as necessary in the current age, the Lambdafloss still study Lua in the interest of preserving their history and it has become a sort of sport both in combat and dance.

The Clothing in Lambda ranges from the more traditional style to more modern beach-wear.  Traditional garb is revealing with little coverage and commonly open chested on all genders. They are constructed from sea shells, large palm leaves and grasses weaved together to form loose and flowing outfits, adorned with bright flowers and shell accessories. Lamdafloss women like to wear long flowing dresses  that are easy to move in and breathe well in the hot sun. Modern Lambda men find a humorous sort of joy in wearing  brightly colored collared shirts that are painted with scenes of the wildlife and flora of the island. They are a very distinct look and are often worn on top of other tighter shirts or open to reveal floss' bare chests.

attributes

Here are some common attributes shared by the members of the Lambda Clan. Does your floss fit the mold? Or are they an odd man out? Either way these are some stereotypes they may be compared to by other Candyfloss throughout their lives.

  • Easy going ; If a floss knows one thing about Lambda its that they are Easy going and don't care about most things openly. They rarely have strong negative emotions and are always coasting in life, taking the easy way out. Be it a compliment on their control of their emotions and pleasant attitude, or a criticism of their work ethic, most Lambda will have to live with the stereotype and expectation of being easy going.

  •  Generous ; Floss often assume Lambdafloss of being generous souls. They are the friend who will let you crash at their house no questions asked, or foot the bill for you if you're low on cash. With their focus on personal happiness, Lambda are often not attached to many physical things and get by on low income, so are usually eager to share their excess wealth when they have it.  For some this stereotype is welcomed, but for most it can get grating when people always expect you to give.

  •  Unintelligent ; Living on the island, and spending a vast majority of their time outdoors, not many Lambdafloss indulge in technology, things like computers, smart phones and flat screens are hard to come by in the smaller coastal villages that dot the lambda shores. That said Lambdafloss are usually well educated and are much smarter than they may appear at first glance. Many floss are caught off guard when they see that side of a Lambdafloss for the first time.

  •  Lazy ; Some floss see a lifestyle of partying, swimming, and laying on the beach as a lazy affair. The Lambda's philosophy of chasing your happiness rather than sticking with things even when they are unpleasant can rub a lot of floss the wrong way - especially if they were raised in a clan that believes in struggling for your victory. They can never see eye to eye, and the Lambda often pity those who over work themselves just as much.

  •  Heartbreaker ; Be it the nature of their empathic abilities, the exotic sound of their voice, or the tendency to show their bodies off, the Lambda are very attractive to romantic partners. Sometimes too attractive. When jealousy arises rumors go around quickly about Lambdafloss and the manipulation of emotions or their inability to be faithful in relationship. It can make dating a struggle for young Lambda who find themselves the target of these sorts of whispers. Being branded as a heartbreaker can cause many tears for innocent Lambdafloss just looking for true love.

History

A legend in Lambda has been passed down from generation to generation through the art of song and dance. It tells of a king from years in the past who ruled over Lambda with a strong and harsh fist. They called him Lua Pele, the raging volcano. The people of Lambda were worked to the bone, and sent out to attack nearby villages to expand their land. Lua Pele was large and strong and forced all around him to bend to his will and the Lambdafloss were miserable. Some claimed he had a heart made of ash and stone, others questioned if he had a heart at all. One day a mighty storm hit Lambda and it's said that the island began to flood, causing the people to flee to higher ground. Lua Pele was stubborn and refused to flee his castle as the water rose higher and higher all his men and people abandoned him to drown in the flooded castle. After three days the rain subsided and the tides returned to the sea, but when the castle guards came back to find the king he was alive and well. Lua Pele claimed that his life was saved by a beautiful woman who came from the sea. His heart was changed by the woman who he called ʻAakaʻaka ke Kai, the laughter of the sea. He had made a pledge when his life was saved to be a kind king and to pursue happiness for himself and his people. Some claim that the king saw a hallucination while he was nearing death, but the legend of Aka'aka ke Kai shaped the way the Lambda clan was run from that day on. Artwork and Statues that the king had built depicted the woman as a part fish part floss that many believe now may have been a stray Taffyfloss lost in the storm, but the truth may never be revealed. Every King since Lua Pele has given their thanks to the sea and have upheld his promise to live and rule for happiness and peace.

leader

Kauri Louloudi is the easy-going leader of the  Lambda Clan. He is fun-loving,  spontaneous, and congenial. Kauri is the eldest son of 3 brothers. He and his brothers were trouble makers as children, climbing trees, diving in the sea for buried treasure, and building sand castles the size of a car. He loves the outdoors and in his adolescence could often be found on the seashore hunting for seashells that strike his fancy. Kauri was trained in the art of Lua but he showed no interest in martial arts. He fell behind his brothers in their training and eventually gave it up, instead showing more artistic interests. Kauri is a talented musician and can play the ukulele, guitar, and jazz piano. He also thrived in his Empathic ability training, and was a bit of a heart throb in the clan. He had many girlfriends and was known to leave a trail of broken hearts behind him. Though he cared about each of his many partners he never upset about them for too long and would quickly move on to his next. He lives by a strong philosophy that 'the sun will come out tomorrow' and that there’s no use in getting upset about minor things.

In his youth he became close to the other leader-in-trainings who called Karpos their home, Akio the crown prince of Kappa and Cassandra the princess of Phi. The three spent a lot of time together and were close friends. Kauri found real friendship with the two of them, and Akio confided in Kauri that he wished to take Casey as his bride when they were of age. Tragedy struck when Prince Akio was lost in an accident before his coronation, and before revealing his love for Casey. The loss was hard on Kauri but he managed to keep smiling and helped Casey through the loss of their friend. As a result he and Casey grew closer as they both took their respective thrones and their friendship grew into romantic feelings. Kauri cared so much for Casey but never allowed himself to love her in return, always remembering Akio's feelings for her. He could never cross that line despite how he felt. He began to feel his own heart harden. As always Kauri kept smiling and ruled over his kingdom like the Lambdafloss before him with love and passion. He was big on immediate happiness and it showed in his leadership. He often invested in commodities and improvement projects like rebuilding damaged or old buildings and keeping the shoreline sparkling clean. Immersed in his work he went on dealing with his brothers' antics, his scandalous love life, and his occasional walks on the shore. All the while his heart ached, with a lost friend whom he cared about more than he knew, and a love that he could never pursue and Kauri refused to allow himself to feel these emotions, stubbornly refusing to stop smiling.

Much like in the old legends, one day a storm hit the island and waves began to crash on the shore, ripping apart the capital city. Kauri, concerned for his citizens, took to the streets to help the evacuation and save his people who were caught off guard by the sudden hurricane. To the peoples' terror their King was swept away by the sea and lost in the ravishing waves. Kauri was dragged below the waves, deep into the ocean, tossed and turned by the angry storm. He found himself saved by a beautiful mermaid, the Taffyfloss leader Nereida. She saved his life, just like the story of Aka'aka ke Kai. Kauri spent several days recovering from his shock and injury in the underwater cities of Rho. The queen Nereida was enthralled by Kauri and the two talked constantly during his visit, about who and what they were, where they were from, and the differences and similarities in their ways of life. They grew close and Kauri's stories of the surface world made Nereida and a number of her people want to come and see for themselves. Kauri brought the Taffyfloss to Lambda and Nereida spent a lot of time with him from then on. It didnt take long for Nereida  to fall for him but she noticed immediately that he was not being true to himself. After some time Kauri opened up to Nereida about his past and about the state of his heart. With her guidance and support he began to accept his feelings and allowed himself to stop smiling and to feel his grief for the first time. Like the king before him Kauri's heart was softened by the laughter of the sea and his heart was free to feel love again.

During their first year together the pair traveled back and forth between the kingdoms of Rho and Lambda and eventually wed, becoming one of the only clans to share leadership. Kauri still deals with his brothers, and is close with his friend Casey and the other leaders, but now enjoys his walks on the beach with his wife at his side.  He sees life as a gift and does his best to share that gift with his clan.

lambda territory

The Lambda region is a tropical paradise that strings around the northern shore of Karpos. The clan extends into the seas to a number of small islands, some established, others wild, that dot the ocean around the mainland. There are a few larger cities but most of the villages in Lambda are small and down to earth, with mostly wooden construction and simple roads. Most settlements on Lambda hang close to the shore and if they're within flood range will be built on stilts to prevent damage in case of emergency. The larger cities of Lambda tend to be flooded with tourists and visitors from other continents, but the villages more removed are calm and serene.

nature

Odc8A41.pngThe weather in Lambda ranges from tepid to extremely hot, with highest  temperatures nearing Alpha's summer heats. The sky is a bright beautiful shade of blue all through the day, then as the sun sets it fades to purple, then to a rich red throughout the night. The grasses and most plants on Lambda are a lime, bright green, but other plants and ferns are often blues and bright pinks, and rarely yellows and purples. The sands and rocks in lambda are usually a soft golden yellow. The air tends to be humid  year round and there is an abundance of rain in the spring and winter  months. The tropical wildlife and consistent weather isn't for  everyfloss, but the hospitality, beautiful vistas, and glittering  luxurious ocean are more than enough for the floss of Lambda to be  happy. 16kLpiZ.png

landmarks

Crystal Beach
This   sparkling beach is voted the most beautiful vista in Lambda. Crystal   beach sits just southeast from the Capital city and is the site of the   Lambda's biggest and most famous Alati Nero Luau. There is an  amusement  park on the boardwalk, and a surfing competition every  summer, and  theirs always food trucks and live music on the weekends.  The beach is a  popular hang out spot of Taffyfloss, as it is the most  direct route  between Lambda and Rho, and is the exact shore that King  Kauri Louloudi  first brought the Taffy's to the surface. Stop by and  see the great pearl  statue of the King and Queen on the shore that  memorializes the event!  Crystal beach is the place to be!

Pu'uwai hill
In east Lambda near the small town of HokuHoku there is a large hill that ends in a cliff hanging over the sea. When the sun sets wild Pu'uwai Agapi gather at the top of the island, creating a great blinding light. Some say they have seen the form of a woman standing in the midst of the Pu'uwai, but others who have gone to investigate found nothing of the sort. Some say the woman longs for her beloved who died out at sea. Though, others believe this is just a hot spot of Agapi mating rituals. Either way, it is a beautiful sight, that you must see if you are visiting HokuHoku.

The Island of Mahala
Sometimes known as "Donut Isle", the Island of Mahala is a detached island off the East shores of Karpos, there is no active faerie that goes to and from the island so any visitors must use a hired fare boat or water plane in order to travel there. The island is uninhabited and mostly consists of a large lake that sits in the center of the island, giving it a unique ring shape. A local myth states that if you find yourself in the lake when a full moon rises, you may transform (spiritually or literally depending which tale) into something mystical. Of course, there's no proof of this but the locals claim that Mahala island belongs only to the spirits and no one should trespass on it.

key locations

Lā Hana
The capital city of Lā Hana is the largest city in the clan, but is easily dwarfed by cities in more industrious clans like Iota, Nu, or Phi. The Lambda Castle stands with it's back to the sea on a great hill, and is made almost entirely of wood and stone. It's only a single story high but is composed of several buildings and is rather large. There is a long wood plank path leading through the buildings to the main hall, and beautiful vivid plants and palm trees shade the path. The castle often holds grand parties and is open to the people. The city itself is a mix of modern buildings, businesses and modern homes, and the more rural traditional buildings on the outskirts. The busy city roads and high octane city life fades outwards into the calm, easy going lifestyle and simple construction that Lambda is known for.

Hoalauna City

Second to the capital this is the largest city in Lambda located on an island just of the West shore. The city of Hoalauna is the most popular place for tourists to come and stay. The top hotel resort in all of Lambda, Minoʻaka Palace is the main attraction of the island and is always crowded with guests. With a vast and architecturally beautiful airport right on their tiny island Hoalauna City welcomes guests with open arms, smiles, and leis to lay over their heads. Embrace the love and joy of Lambda with Hoalauna! Day and night Hoalauna City has fun and food and relaxation for you to escape your busy day to day lives! The locals who live on the island usually work in the tourism business and are eager to make your acquaintance!

Moku Peʻa City

This port city stands just on the West shore of Lambda, so close to the pebbly shore in fact, that parts of the port city is built on stilts over top of the sea. Boats are constantly coming in and out of Moku Peʻa bringing shipments to and from Karpos from the other continents. In the distant past the port used to be a homestead for pirates and adventurers who sailed all around Caramella. The pirate heritage still shines through on the port and is a common motif in the architecture, restaurants, and shops in the city. Moku Peʻa is a bustling city filled with all sorts of floss who love the ocean.

Huakoa Villiage

Huakoa is the most southern village in Lambda, about two hours drive from the north shore. This quaint village is close to the jungle and is well known for the exotic and rare fruits and flowers they grow there. The villagers who don't farm usually work as sword smiths that hunt and protect the village from the beasts of the forest. Much of the Karpos Rain forest is uncharted and strange new predator are known to lurk inside, with barely anyfloss coming away from them alive to share info. The swordsmen of Huakoa are specially trained in the Lambda's Kuʻialua martial arts to keep the monsters of the forest at bay. Kuʻialua dojos are dotted all across Lambda but the greatest school of teaching is found in Huakoa.

Honi a ʻApo Island

Off the shore of Lambda is an adorable island shaped like the Lambda heart. This island is just big enough for the traditional town of Honi a 'Apo! The people of Honi a 'Apo are very traditional Lambdafloss, and reject new aged technology and tourism. They live among the creatures of their island and cultivate it's beauty and history. The islanders here believe they are protected by a beautiful spirit they call Maikaʻi. Small statues are found of the spirit all around the island and the locals give offerings of food and trinkets to the statues. They dislike travelers who don't respect their way of life. The buildings are thatched and small, and most people on the island fish or cultivate fruits for a living. The people of Honi a 'Apo believe in being one with the island, and are a gentle community.

rzlYlKN.pngClan power

empathy

The Lambda Clan’s power is the ability to  sense and control the emotions  of others. Masters can permanently  change a feeling from one to  another, sometimes even making the Floss  forget why they felt that way  in the first place, while younger users  can only read how someone is  feeling and maybe temporarily change  someone’s emotional outlook if  they’ve had enough practice.
